Uhm... We are in RC2 already. There are teams out there building releases…

The hard deadline for updating package versions was about two weeks ago.
The really-hard deadline for updating package versions was about a week ago.
Right now we aren't updating package versions except for catastrophic bugs.

Your packages in Haskell platform 2013.2

Hi Johan, hi Bas,

the current release candidate for Haskell Platform 2013.2.0.0 uses
unordered-containers-0.2.3.0 and case-insensitive-1.0.0.1. Both of these
packages have released minor version updates recently, so I wonder how
you feel about updating both packages in the upcoming HP to their
respective latest version? Do you think there's any risk associated with
those updates?

Haskell Platform 2013.2.0.0 Release Status?

Hello there,

Could somebody please tell me what the current status is of the
2013.2.0.0 release?

Probably I have missed something but I did not even see a package list
that I could follow for preparing the HP-related updates.  Well, I
peeked at GitHub repository [1] so I have some vague ideas on what and
how will change in the next HP -- but I am missing the related emails
on this list as such information was shared here previously.

According to the web site [2] we are 5 days late with the final
release, though I have not seen release candidates either.

 HaskellPlatform-2012.4.0.0-setup.exe is very slow at adding things to
 PATH.  It seemed to take it about 10-15 minutes to add about 5 things to
 PATH.*  What is it doing?  It did not seem to be using an unusually high
 amount of CPU or RAM during this time, though I wasn't watching carefully.
 If this behavior is expected, it would be nice if "Show Details" gave a
 more detailed explanation of what it's doing when adding things to path,
 so I don't worry that it's frozen or having problems.

Old versions of some libraries in HP 2013.2

Hi Mark,

I noticed that we're not using the latest versions of some libraries
in the 2013.2 spec:

zlib: 0.5.4.0 (latest: 0.5.4.1)
case-insensitive: 1.0.0.1 (latest: 1.0.0.2)
unordered-containers: 0.2.3.0 (latest: 0.2.3.1)

Is there some reason for that?

We're also using old versions of hashable and cgi, but in that case I
know the reasons (dependency on MonadCatchIO-mtl and SipHash,
respectively).

Haskell Platform 2013.2 Proposal Status

Well, I admit I am a bit tardy with this, and a few dates in the schedule have come and gone. But have no fear, I think we'll be okay.

All: 
Updated the time line the 2013.2 release:
  • Today — Call for proposals ends (no more proposals considered)
  • April 15th — Proposals decided, Initial version list
  • April 22th — First candidates
  • April 29th — Open issues resolved, Second candidates
  • May 6th — Final release candidates
Proposals:
These are the proposals being considered for 2013.2, and my current assessment of the "rough consensus":
  • case-insensitive: general consensus for including
  • attoparsec: general consensus for including
  • unordered-containers: general consensus for including
  • hashable: while there has been much discussion about what to do going forward, I see general consensus that accepting version 1.1 into the platform (which is required by other proposals here)
  • OpenGL & GLUT: these have been repackaged by Jason to meet all the concerns of the community. They include two new lower-level packages OpenGLRaw and GLURaw. General consensus for continuing to include, with the lower level packages, and upgraded to latest versions (yay!)
  • JuicyPixels: people like the idea of having a library like this one, perhaps even this one, but there is concern that this API hasn't baked enough. There is not enough consensus for including.
I give you all until Monday for any further discussion, and then we'll call it.

Versions
I now call it official: HP 2013.2 will use GHC 7.6.2. Library maintainers: Please get ready to answer my e-mail when it come a'knockin' on your inbox with the version of your lib we should ship in this release.
