installer update function; kioslaves

Hi.

1.
When installing KDE 4.2 on windows I saw a lot non-KDE packages in the list (even PyQt4!).
But when, after installing kdesdk and deps, I ran installer in
apdate/add mode, I only saw KDE and aspell packages.
I couldn't change the mirror to see if that's the mirror problem.
(I wanted to install krosspython to enable some actions in Lokalize)
Should I fill a bugreport?

2.
I have a bugreport that says Lokalize creates alot of kioslaves while running (windows only):
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=182143
Is this somehow related to KDirModel?
Should I reassign the bugreport to you?
If you don't have any first guesses on how to deal with the problem,
then I'll just set up SDK environment on windows on my computer to investigate...

how do I get this thing running?

Hi to all on the list,

I just downloaded and installed the KDE package for Windoze on my IBM laptop (P-5, reasonable horsepower) via a *very slow* dial-up connection.  When all was said and done, I have tried to fire up various parts of it, to no effect.  I even tried rebooting to see if that would help -- apparently not.  Amarok (which I particularly wanted on this machine, since I like it so much on my PC-BSD machine) started, with some 'exceptions' of some sort.  Now I'm not a geek-type in the least, so exploring the logfile would'nt help me at all.

Can anybody offer any help in diagnosing and fixing my trouble?

This has just been discussed in the amarok mailing list, see:
http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/amarok/2009-February/007632.html
and:
http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/amarok/2009-February/007635.html

The amarokrc file is in "Documents and Settings/Diego/.kde/share/config"
directory.

However please keep in mind Amarok on Windows is still in Beta, so it is
considered as unstable. The same applies to the whole KDE on Windows
project.

Bye,
Diego

I correct myself: this was probably the old path for the files in KDE on
Windows. It seems that now they are in:
Documents and Settings/User/Application Data/.kde/share/config

Hi Diego,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I tried putting "false" in the amarokrc file, and now the programme doesn't even start up.  Any hints?

loading files in Krita problem

Hi,

I’ve installed 4.2.0 without a problem, but when I try to open a file in Krita , the dialog only offers me “krita documents” from the “types of file” drop down.

Also if I try to run the “python image library import” script I get the error “no such interpreter”. I do have python installed on my PC and use it daily.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Perhaps there is something else I need to configure for the python script to run.

It’s a shame because Krita is the only program for editing 16bit RGB tif files that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, I sure if it worked smoothly there would lots of adopters for KDE.

many thanks,

Joe

That's strange: that workaround worked fine for me and for other people
using Amarok for Windows XP:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=183036

Are you running Windows Vista by chance?

Try to check this options:

[Librivox.org]
Librivox.orgEnabled=false

[Plugins]
Amarok Script ConsoleEnabled=false
Cool StreamsEnabled=false
Librivox.orgEnabled=false
LyricWikiEnabled=true

[ScriptManager]
Running Scripts=Lyricwiki

This is part of my configuration file (I use the text applet, if you
don't remove the Lyricwiki from Running Scripts and put LyricWikiEnabled
to false).

Hope it helps, if not you should probably wait for a stabler version.

Bye,
Diego

Hi Joe!

Unfortunately the KOffice version shipped in KDE for Windows is beta 3,
which is about two months and half old. KOffice is still far from being
released as stable (beta 6 is going to be released shortly, a beta 7
will surely follow and they will continue to ship betas until it's fine
to release in a decent state).

What you can do is to check if your issue has already been reported or
fixed. You can search the mailing list:
http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-kimageshop
or the bugzilla:
https://bugs.kde.org/

If you don't find anything you can ask in the krita mailing list or
report in the bugzilla. The developers will take care of the issues as
soon as possible.

Regards,
Diego
