Strange problem with kde 3.5.1

Hi,

I have problem with getting kde 3.5.1 to run, It starts up and i get the startup
display with initializing and makes the 3 first stages and when it comes to the
  display it crashes with a strange error message:

 > X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).
 > X connection to X connection to :0.0:0.0 broken (explicit kill or server
shutdown).
 > broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).

When i revert back to kde version 3.4.3 everything is back to normal.

I have installed nvidia graphics driver and i have only one framebuffer.
here is a list of /dev/fb*

 > ls -l /dev/fb*
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root          47 Mar  4 17:43 /dev/fb ->

lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root          11 Jun  5  2005 /dev/fb1 -> fbs/nvidia0

/dev/fbs:

1. Anything written to /var/log/Xorg.0.log ?
2. You should get a core dump of kwin (unless you set coredumpsize to
0). You can open it in gdb and see where the crash happens.

arts fails to build on OpenSolaris

Hi, I'm building audio/arts from NetBSD's pkgsrc on OpenSolaris with SunStudio

You have to patch, compile and link in gslglib.c (which requires
gslglib.h) -- which is in arts-1.5.1/flow/gsl and which defines these
two functions:

/* gslglib.h */
#ifndef GSLGLIB_H
#define GSLGLIB_H

#include <glib.h>

void gsl_g_log (const gchar*msg,const char *format, va_list ap);
void gsl_g_print_fd (int fd, const char *format, va_list ap);

Thanks for the pointers, I have applied all patches located at:

ftp://ftp.kde.og/pub/kde/stable/3.4.3/contrib/Solaris/SUNSTUDIO10/SOURCE.PATCHES

It fixed the problem described above, however it now fails in the following stage:

You are right, libmcop.so.1 was not included at link stage. The easy
way to fix this is to add $(top_builddir)/mcop/libmcop.la to the
soundserver_LDADD directive in the Makefile (since KDE uses the
autotools to compile and link, you have to give libtool the *.la
wrapper for linking). Do not include a relative path
(like ../mcop/libmcop.la), because the linker might write the
dependency as a relative path as well (like ../../libmcop.so.1),
which will result in "file not found" errors at run time when it
resolves the library dependencies.

The harder way to fix this is to fix it is in Makefile.am, but that

SunStudio patches

Hi, I'm building kde-3.5.1 on Solaris with SunStudio 11 and getting compiler
errors, etc. There are SunStudio patches at:

ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/3.4.3/contrib/Solaris/SUNSTUDIO10/SOURCE.PATCHES/

Have those patches been pulled up to kde-3.5.1 branch or do I need to apply
them to build kde with SunStudio?

Thanks a lot Stefan!

This script fixed the problem in my system due to this issue on KDE ...

you have to apply them manually to 3.5.1.

Well some patches don't apply cleanly to 3.5.1, so I've given up and decided to
build the whole thing with GCC. This however presents another set of problems,
somehow g++ is passed '-Qoption ld' arguments when building qt3 libraries. I'm
confused, maybe I should just wait for kde-4.0 to come out and then give it
another try.

g++ -Qoption ld -R/opt/pkg/gcc3/lib/gcc-lib/sparc-sun-solaris2/3.3.5 -Qoption
ld -R/opt/pkg/gcc3/lib -Qoption ld -R/opt/pkg/lib -Qoption ld
