Plasma Applet popupPosition( size ), context menus

1. No matter what I do, the widget placed by this is lined up horizontally
with the applet but appears high up on the screen rather than right above the
applet itself. Is this a bug? Or what do I need to do to move() the widget to
the right position?

2. The default context menu (right click) is from plasma itself, remove this
applet? How do I ADD my own items to this rather than have a config item to
get to a few options? Replace this?

Cmake build error for qPixmap stuff

Lines like this from ui_myproject.h:

icon.addPixmap(QPixmap(qPixmapFromMimeSource(":/icons/audio-headset.xpm")),
QIcon::Normal, QIcon::Off);

produce missing libraries on build:
... undefined reference to `qPixmapFromMimeSource(QString const&)

What do I need to add to my cmake to get this?

(Without it, I cannot get any icons into the widgets! Direct setIcon(QIcon(
"....xpm") ) is an immediate crash.)

Plasma Applets

I have an applet which seems to work fine in the plasmoid viewer.

If I add it to the panel or the desktop, it will also work but will crash
plasma on next login. It will sometimes crash when it is triggered by the
events it monitors as well but usually will work on first install.

If I leave the viewer up for a period of time, it will sometimes crash there
as well. This time I get a lengthy dump. Here is a tiny excerpt:

X Error: BadGC (invalid GC parameter) 13

I am running KDE4 from experimental/backports and Debian Sid.
I have an older mx400 nvidia card.

I had thought that the multithreadedness of the applet was the problem but at
"idle", only one background thread is going. That nvidia is most likely the
culprit. The viewer might be OK if I do not resize it.

I guess your chance on getting help is better if you post to the panel-devel
list, which is AFAIK currently used by the Plasma developers for development
related discussions.

Cheers,
Kevin

Worker threads are not, but a QTimer is being used to blink/alternate images.
This is a thread, I suppose. Alternative?

Also, that timer is not being used on applet startup.

No, a QTimer is not a separate thread but rather a kind of event source for
the current thread's event loop (or rather the event loop of the thread which
constructed the timer object, i.e. usually the main thread).

Seems this is not the cause of the errors you are seeing.

Cheers,
Kevin

I just got informed that they switched to plasma-devel

https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/plasma-devel

They also have an IRC channel called #plasma on the freenode network.

Cheers,
