New website is live!

Heya,

with the read-only forum in place, i have made the switch to the new website.
Everything seems to be running smooth. If you notice any problems, please let
me know.

http://www.krusader.org/

Old urls are permanently redirected to their new equivalents (if there are
any), so we shouldn't have any dead links and be fine at google.

Best Regards,
Dirk

Re: krusader - directory/file sync bug

fwding to krusader-devel

On Wed, Jan 18, 2012 at 04:27, Denny <lumnis-gM/Ye1E23mwN+BqQ9rBEUg@public.gmane.org> wrote:

Dear Shie,
first I have to say I really like Krusader - it generally helps to get things
done quickly.

One issue remained over the years - timestamps of files when using the
synchronisation tool.
When I synchronise two directories - say my linux box with a mac over sftp.

There is an inconsistent behaviour.
Files coming from the mac to my local machine (linux) - keep the date/time of
the original file. But files synchronised from the linux box to the mac will
change time/date to the point in time when it's been copied.
When I sync again - I end up with the file being copied on to the linux box
with the "new" date/time (the time I synced it on to the mac).

This behaviour makes the whole sync unusable.

Any Idea why it is doing that and what to do about it?

cheers,
Denny

krarc

Hi everybody,

as you might have noticed, I have disabled the krarc ioslave
(https://projects.kde.org/projects/extragear/utils/krusader/repository/revisions/dc1b210948c9e92023ceca36383500b635677636).
Reason: there is at least one bug (http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=280939
and probably http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=290376) involving data loss.

Having looked over the krarc source, It is my opinion that doing a rewrite
from scratch would be a better spend effort than finding bugs in the current
implementation. Unfortunately I currently don't have time for either.

We now have the following dilemma:
I would like to release 2.4 in the not to far future - obviously we can't
release with a buggy krarc.
If we release 2.4 with krarc disabled, people will surely be unhappy and
probably continue to use 2.0.0.

If you have any suggestions what to do, please let me know.

bye,
Jan

Time to say goodbye...

Happy new year everyone!

I've been a bad webmaster the last few years.

Our website is horribly outdated. It shows its age in each and every aspect.
Not only design and content wise, doing a release is also a real pain.
Whenever i visit the website, deleting spam at the forums, i leave it with a
bad feeling.

So i've build a new website (again). I know, i've announced it several times.
The first version i've build with Django was too heavy and never got finished.
This time i kept it simple, left several old perceptions behind, basically
starting from scratch. I focussed on a simple design with only a few subpages.

The move to extragear helped alot to keep it simple. And the fact that
nowadays Krusader can easily be installed an any important distribution
(thanks to Frank's aggressive marketing ;)). So there is no bloated download
section, just the recent source and some instructions how to install it as
well as a section how to get involved. The project activity is aggregated from
projects.kde.org and displays the last checkins on the landing page.

The documentation is now a core part of the website. I feel it's one of the
project's highlights and the website has to honour it. The docs now integrate
seemless, they actually use the same stylesheets as the website itself. An
xslt is run by cron to checkout the source and update the docs on a daily
basis.

The only showstopper i see could be the forums. They run on an ancient version
of phpbb and are invaded by spammers in a way that is not maintainable
anymore. I'm asking myself if we still need the forums, you hardly see people
using forums these days anyway. Is it time to say goodbye to them? Or do you
feel we need them?

I've hosted a fully usable version of the new website here:
http://django.krusader.org/

Please let me know what you think.

Best Regards,
Dirk Eschler

Hello Mr. Erlich,
When Krusader can only pass a complete list of left and right Synchnonisation.
If you have previously selected in the various directories Krusader it will unfortunately not be used as a selection for a partial synchronization.
That's pity, because the total commander offers this feature, which is very important to me (my main reason not to leave Windows completely).
I'm often the case with me, that I have on the one hand, maybe 20 directories and on the other hand, 10 directories, and then I mark
10 directories and only these should then be searched with the other side and synchronized later.
Would it be possible to include the directory selection in addition to, as well as Copying the case.

best regards
Manfred Nosswitz

Fine, attached a patch using solution no 1), just to illustrate what I have in
mind.

Thanks.

More Documentation fixes

Hi,

attached a patch to remove some obsolete stuff:

editors-note.docbook:
Sourceforge documentation tarballs are from 2009-04-21, outdated -> removed

faq.docbook:
Krusader-doc (last mail from Nov 11 2006) and Krusader-i18n (last mail from
Aug 8 2008) removed, the corresponding feeds as well.

The viewer-editor.docbook needs a general review (it has outdated/missing
stuff), but because the viewer is using the kde editor component (kate/kwrite),
it makes sense to reuse the existing and up to date menu + settings
documentation from kwrite, therefor the Kate/KWrite documentation maintainer
is cc'ed.

There are several ways to include the editor component docs:

1) Copy the relevant parts from KWrite, no Installation of KWrite required,
but the documentation manually has to be keept in sync with KWrite.

2) Link to them, but that requires KWrite and it's documentation to be
installed.

3) Move kde's editor component menu + settings documentation from kwrite into
kdelibs, then this documentation is always available on a system running
Krusader.

1) + 2) can be done for 4.8, 3) not before 4.9.

At the moment I tend to no 1) as temporary solution until the proper(?)
solution no 3) is in place, but I'd like to get some input on that, especially
from kate's doc maintainer.

Thanks.

Documentation for General FAQ

Hi,

faq.docbook has this note:

          <note>
            <para>
<emphasis>If you've got bugs to report please do not
              use &kde;'s bugzilla http://bugs.kde.org/,

              &krusader; bugs directly to us.</emphasis>
            </para>
          </note>

Afaik b.k.o is the official bugtracker now, so this is wrong.

Objections to remove it?

Hi Giorgio,

first of all thanks for offering your help, and welcome to the team !
Actually I have to say you are right in time :-) - as I'm currently a little
more busy than before.

As for documentation - here is a short overview of what I consider the most
central files/classes of the source tree:

krusader/
--------------------------
krglobal.h
KrGlobal: pointers to global objects -
these shall be removed in the future.
kractions.h
	KrActions: historically all actions
	(see http://api.kde.org/4.x-api/kdelibs-apidocs/kdeui/html/classKAction.html)
	were created by this class.
I have started to split this up and move actions to classes like TabActions,
	ListPanelActions and ViewActions,
	which all inherit ActionsBase (actionsbase.h).
krslots.h
KRslots: slots for actions in KrAction.
These should be moved to more appropriate places.
krusader.h
	Krusader: the main window.
krusaderview.h
KrusaderView: widget containing the actual content of the main window:
the two panelmanagers, the commandline and embedded terminal
	and the function buttons.
panelmanager.h
	PanelManager: the panelmanager mentioned above,
which contains at least one ore more panels (see below) in tabs.

krusader/Panel/
--------------------------
listpanel.h
ListPanel: this is the container widget which contains the file list view,
the popup panel, various panel-specific buttons and status bars.
panelfunc.h
ListPanelFunc: implementation of of panel-specific actions like
	copy/move/etc.
Also maintains the browsing history of the panel.
It holds a reference to a vfs object (see below).
listpanelactions.h
	ListPanelActions: panel-specific actions connected
to slots of ListPanel and ListPanelFunc.
krview.h
KrView: abstract class for the file-list view -
ultimately inherited currently by KrInterDetailedView (krinterdetailedview.h)
	and KrInterBriefView (krinterbriefview.h).
viewactions.h
	ViewActions: view-specific actions.

krusader/VFS/
--------------------------
The filesytem abstraction layer.
This was introduced to Krusader before the KIO framework was there. I'm
currently working on replacing this with KIO in a separate git branch.
--------------------------
vfs.h
vfs: this abstract class represents a directory and,
besides enumerating the content, offers various file operations.

If you've got further questions I suggest we discuss them at
irc://irc.freenode.org/krusader.

Bye,
Jan
