Re: KOffice spell checker

Hello David!

Thank you for the detailed answer and for the help. The package versions
are OK. No, I did not compile anything from sources and I feel threatened
by the thought of it :-)

Fortunately, I "just" had no aspell dics installed so nearly everything
works now. BUT while the English, German and Italian spell checker works
now, the Hungarian does not. Any suggestions?

Good-by Koffice 1.4, Hello Koffice 1.3.5

Dear friends:

I have been trying to install the latest Koffice 1.4. That is probably
why it would not "make" on my system. I do not necessarily need the
latest 1.4 version. So, I've downloaded and am now installing the
earlier Koffice 1.3.5. Configure went perfectly except that it said that
I needed aspell => 0.50.2. Well, I actully have that file:

[sher <at> localhost ~]$ rpm -qa aspell
aspell-0.50.5-3.fc3
[sher <at> localhost ~]$

But hopefully that's the only issue. If "make" and "make install" is
successful, I'll contact the list for help with this minor "aspell"
configuration issue.

Thank you.

Benjamin

Koffice 1.3.5 installs flawlessly

Dear friends:

Koffice 1.3.5 installed flawlessly. Configure, make and make install
were flawless. When I logged out and logged back into KDE, I discovered
that all of the Koffice applications were listed in their proper place
under Office, which amazed me. And everything else seems to work
perfectly, including the spellchecker in Kword. The error message
concerning the alleged absence of aspell at the end of configure turned
out to be wrong. Spellchecking works perfectly.

Naturally, I should have realized that I could install Koffice 1.3.5
instead of the very latest Koffice 1.4. Believe it or not, it just
didn't occur to me. But now all is well.

My thanks to everyone for their help.

Benjamin

Uh, didn't you say this was a rhel4 box? What's a fc3 rpm doing here?

Dear Rex:

It's actually a Scientific Linux box, which is RHEL 4 recompiled
from source.

configure wants libaspell, not aspell, iirc.

Re: Good-by Koffice 1.4, Hello Koffice 1.3.5

Dear David:

I beg to differ but in Koffice 1.3.5 configure specifically mentioned
the absence of "aspell", even though it was, as you can see,
installed on my system. It said further that due to the absence of
aspell, spell-checking would be disabled. Well, after install, which
went flawlessly, I might add, I opened Kword and tested the spell-
checker. Works perfectly.

Glad to finally have Koffice. And, I might add, it (with all its
applications) installed perfectly right into the Office category of my
Menu in KDE. Couldn't have asked for anything better.

Thank you.

Same problem in Estonian. Also according to styleguide menubar entries have to be noun. Note that KOffice
applications are not the only ones with this problem. Kpovmodeler for example has it as well.

SVN commit 430563 by dfaure:

Differenciate "Insert button" from "Insert menu". Both are verbs in English,
but not in all languages (so the context isn't as obvious as it appears to be,
this is mostly about differenciating the two).

Right, packaged in redhat/fedora as
aspell-devel
