Fwd: FreeBSD Ports Collection: KGPG

Got this mail today...

I actually don't maintain this port, but it looks like the maintainer (rick at rptn dot net) isn't active anymore. Maybe the port should be removed? It's only causing confusion now, I guess.

Hello. I noticed that the FreeBSD port KGPG, in security/kgpg, is now
outdated. From the KGPG development website
(http://developer.kde.org/~kgpg/), "KGpg has been moved to the
kdeutils package." Indeed, KGpg now resides in the port misc/kdeutils3
(as of 2005/7/1). I'm not sure what action should be taken, but I felt
you should know as you are the maintainer. Thanks.

What does 'looks like' mean? No response to emails? Email address invalid?

> Maybe the port should be
> removed?

Not our (kde <at> ) call. If the maintainer's email address is invalid, I can reset
MAINTAINER immediately and set an expiration date for the port. If he just
doesn't respond, a PR needs to be filed and we need a confirmation (or
feedback timeout) from the maintainer for the port to be removed (or in the
case of a timeout, marked for expiration).

For now, I've adjusted the CONFLICTS line to prevent it from installing over
kdeutils...

installing themes

I can't see how to make use of the themes that I have found, in
ports/x11-themes. In kde's configuration, after I had installed the
theme metacity-bluecurve-theme, kde's configuration control center
coulnd't see the files. When I spelunked enough to find the installed
files (in /usr/X11R6/share/gnome/themes) kde couldn't recognize any of
the files installed there, so I couldn't force things.

Could you please drop a hint as to how to use the themes? There isn't a
dependency missing, is there?

The metacity-bluecurve-theme is not for KDE, it's for the Metacity
window manager (which is default for GNOME).

For KDE you need themes that have "KDE" in the title or description.

From the /usr/ports/x11-themes directory, run the command:

make search key=kde | grep Path

...to get a list of all ports that should work with KDE (the exceptions
are geramik and gtk-qt-engine).

I meant that the port hasn't been updated in a long time. The email
address is definitely valid, and I'm waiting for a reply.

OK, I'll wait to see if I get a response from the maintainer.

It failed to find configure. Here's the output when I ran the above command:
configure: Can't open configure: No such file or directory
root <at> lightning(p1)/usr/ports/multimedia/kdemultimedia3 115% whereis configure
configure: /usr/ports/audio/rsynth/files/configure

I previously responded to this with an erroroneous report. I had gotten
confused and forgot to cd into work/kdemultimedia-3.4.1.

I went through it again and configure finished:
Good - your configure finished. Start make now

I have a second system virtually identical to the failing system that also
fails this way. So if I've screwed up this system and "fixed" it somehow, I
can always repeat these steps on the other system...

I'm out of ideas how to reproduce this in a meaningful way now. :-(

This bug has crept up in kdemultimedia before, very very rarely, for very few
people, as early as in the days of FreeBSD 4.8 and whatever KDE version was
out by then. We've never been able to reproduce it. It doesn't happen on the
packaging cluster and it doesn't happen to me either on 4.x or on 5.x.

So all I can suggest for now if you want to have KDE 3.4.1 now is to build
binary packages on a machine that works and use that - or you'll have to wait
until the packages for 4-STABLE are built by the FreeBSD cluster and uploaded
to the ftp servers.

Since the problem appeared to be related to SSE/MME, I looked for SSE enables
in my kernel config and I found one. I commented out CPU_ENABLE_SSE and
rebuilt the world and kernel. kdemultimedia3 STILL wants to build itself
with SSE. Is there any knob for SSE not defined in /etc/defaults/make.conf?

I also added a -v switch to the top of the configure script and here's the
tail end:

ac_cv_x86_sse=no
fi
rm -f conftest.err conftest.$ac_objext conftest.$ac_ext

fi

echo "$as_me:33405: result: $ac_cv_x86_sse" >&5
echo "${ECHO_T}$ac_cv_x86_sse" >&6
yes
if eval "test \"`echo `$ac_cv_x86_sse\" = yes"; then

cat >>confdefs.h <<\_ACEOF
#define HAVE_X86_SSE 1
_ACEOF

fi
eval: 1: Syntax error: Unterminated quoted string
===>  Script "configure" failed unexpectedly.
Please report the problem to kde <at> FreeBSD.org [maintainer] and attach the
"/usr/ports/multimedia/kdemultimedia3/work/kdemultimedia-3.4.1/config.log"
including the output of the failure of your make command. Also, it might be
a good idea to provide an overview of all packages installed on your system
(e.g. an `ls /var/db/pkg`).
