Re: KDE + stock-exchange trading platform

Dear mr. Maksymov,

We are happy to hear Bolsavizor is interested in working with Free Software and KDE. Bringing your software to GNU/Linux can benefit both users and your business.

Inclusion of any software within KDE is entirely possible, as long as the software complies with our Licensing and quality policies*. In short, this will mean the software has to be:

- developed upon the software infrastructure offered by the GUI toolkit Qt (a Nokia Product, information at trolltech.com) and the KDE libraries (techbase.kde.org/Development);

- Within the KDE source repositories (browsable from websvn.kde.org);

- Free Software (generally speaking GPL or BSD licensed; information at fsf.org).

I am not sure to what extend your current product line complies with these requirements – I was unable to find information about the GUI development toolkit used in your products, for example.

Furthermore, a look at your website left me unsure if your business model seems currently based around GPL licensing. Such a model, however viable, is often fundamentally different from the traditional software business models.

We are willing to offer advice and support in developing such a model if necessary, and of course in bringing your software within our repositories once/if it complies with our policies.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Greetings,

Jos Poortvliet

KDE Marketing Team

Dear Developers and Users of KDE,

My name is Ivan Maksymov, I work for the company BolsAvizor Ltd. headquartered in Kharkov, Ukraine and Mexico-city, Mexico.

Our products are stand-alone trading platforms such as AmpleSight (www.amplesight.com) and BolsAvizor (www.bolsavizor.com). BolsAvizor was developed taking into account the requirements of individual and institutional South American traders. It is very popular in Chile, Mexico and Argentina. Its big brother AmpleSight has English GUI and is widely used the world over.

We know that many users of BolsAvizor would prefer to work and trade with Linux. We also know that they like the KDE desktop.

We have prepared our new GNU Linux-orientated product that boasts of the best features of AmpleSight and BolsAvizor but also has some pioneering advances. This product will be absolutely free for all users of Linux.

We would like to know if it will be possible to include our software into the standard KDE distribution. We are sure that KDE will gain from offering a trading platform with advanced technical analysis tools able to receive financial data and execute trade orders both in real time.

Please, let us know your opinions.

Thank you in advance!

Best regards,

Ivan Maksymov

CONFERENCE OVERVIEW
---------------------------------------------------------------------

TeNe 2008 provides a virtual forum for presentation and discussion of the
state-of the-art research on Telecommunications and Networking. TeNe 2008
is one of the sub-confernces in the CISSE series of international joint
e-conferences. CISSE is the World's first Engineering / Computing and
Systems Research E-Conference. CISSE 2005 was the first high-caliber
Research Conference in the world to be completely conducted online in
real-time via the internet. CISSE 2005 received 255 research paper
submissions and the final program included 140 accepted papers, from more
than 45 countries. CISSE 2006 received 691 research paper submissions and
the final program included 390 accepted papers, from more than 70
countries. CISSE 2007 received 750 research paper submissions and the final
program included 406 accepted papers, from more than 80 countries.

The virtual conference will be conducted through the Internet using
web-conferencing tools, made available by the conference. Authors will be
presenting their PowerPoint, audio or video presentations using
web-conferencing tools without the need for travel. Conference sessions
will be broadcast to all the conference participants, where session
participants can interact with the presenter during the presentation and
(or) during the Q&A slot that follows the presentation. This international
conference will be held entirely on-line. The accepted and presented papers
will be made available and sent to the authors after the conference both on
a DVD (including all papers, powerpoint presentations and audio
presentations) and as a book publication. Springer, the official publisher
for CISSE, published the 2005 proceedings in two books and the CISSE 2006
and CISSE 2007 proceedings in four books.

Conference participants - authors, presenters and attendees - only need an
internet connection and sound available on their computers in order to be
able to contribute and participate in this international ground-breaking
conference. The on-line structure of this high-quality event will allow
academic professionals and industry participants to contribute their work
and attend world-class technical presentations based on rigorously refereed
submissions, live, without the need for investing significant travel funds
or time out of the office.

The concept and format of CISSE is ground-breaking. The PowerPoint
presentations, final paper manuscripts and time schedule for live
presentations over the web are available for weeks prior to the start of
the conference for all registrants, so that the participants can choose the
presentations they want to attend and think about questions that they might
want to ask. The live audio presentations are also recorded and are part of
the permanent CISSE on-line archive - accessible to all registrants - which
also includes all the papers, PowerPoint and audio presentations.

Potential non-author conference attendees who cannot make the on-line
conference dates are encouraged to register, as the entire joint
conferences will be archived for future viewing.

The CISSE conference audio room provides superb audio even over low speed
internet connections, the ability to display PowerPoint presentations, and
cross-platform compatibility (the conferencing software runs on Windows,
Mac, and any other operating system that supports Java). In addition, the
conferencing system allowed for an unlimited number of participants, which
in turn granted us the opportunity to allow all CISSE participants to
attend all presentations, as opposed to limiting the number of available
seats for each session.

Prospective authors are invited to submit full papers electronically in
Microsoft Word format through the website of the conference at
http://www.cisse2008conference.org.

Accepted papers must be presented in the virtual conference by one of the
authors.
To submit your paper, visit http://www.cisse2008conference.org

The topics covered by the Fourth International Conference on
Telecommunications and Networking (TeNe 08) include, but are not limited to
the following:

Topics: Optical Networks and Switching, Computer Networks, Network
architectures and Equipment, Access Technologies, Telecommunication
Technology, Coding and Modulation technique, Modeling and Simulation,
Spread Spectrum and CDMA Systems, OFDM technology, Space-time Coding, Ultra
Wideband Communications, Medium Access Control, Spread Spectrum, Wireless
LAN: IEEE 802.11, HIPERLAN, Bluetooth, Cellular Wireless Networks,
Cordless Systems and Wireless Local Loop, Mobile Network Layer, Mobile
Transport Layer, Support for Mobility, Conventional Encryption and Message
Confidentiality, Block Ciphers Design Principles, Block Ciphers Modes of
Operation, Public-Key Cryptography and Message Authentication,

the world to be completely conducted online in real-time via the internet.
CISSE 2005 received 255 research paper submissions and the final program
included 140 accepted papers, from more than 45 countries. CISSE 2006
received 691 research paper submissions and the final program included 390
accepted papers, from more than 70 countries. CISSE 2007 received 750
research paper submissions and the final program included 406 accepted
papers, from more than 80 countries.

Springer, the official publisher
for CISSE, published the 2005 proceedings in 2 books and the CISSE 2006 and
CISSE 2007 proceedings in four books.

The PowerPoint
presentations, final paper manuscripts and time schedule for live
presentations over the web had been available for weeks prior to the start
of the conference for all registrants, so that the participants can choose
the presentations they want to attend and think about questions that they
might want to ask. The live audio presentations were also recorded and are
part of the permanent CISSE on-line archive - accessible to all
registrants- which also includes all the papers, PowerPoint and audio
presentations.

Prospective authors are invited to submit full papers electronically in
Microsoft Word format through the website of the conference at

virtual conference by one of the authors. To submit your paper, please visit

KDE 3.3 & Keyboard settings

All -

I'm looking into KDE/X setting to accommodate multiple keyboard/language
settings at a system level vs. a user level. I've attempted to get input
from Red Hat via Dell & HP but no luck.

In a nutshell I'm looking for a way to configure KDE/X to give the user the
automatic ability to switch keyboards at a system level. I've played
around with the kxkbrc file but couldn't determine how to configure KDE to
read this file at the system level vs. having each individual user
attempting to configure their keyboard. In addition, it seems like the
keyboard setting requires the corresponding language to be set as well, for
example, in order to use the Euro symbol I had to set the Language for UK.

Does it make sense to have say 5-6 KDE keyboard settings defined
automatically for the user and the only thing they would accomplish is set
the language prior to login? Can this be avoided by a KDE language setting
that can be completed?

In addition, how does the language/keyboard settings affect logins from
other sources (i.e. ssh, VNC/Exceed)? What are the advantages/drawbacks?

Is there a better way to have single configuration that could accommodate
multiple regions/countries?

Currently using:
KDEv3.3
RHASv4.4 with 4.5 kernel

I'd appreciate any direction and/or suggestions.

Regards,
Ashis
