: Wiktionary data for Parley

Hi,

a happy new year to all - we have quite some new data over here and I am preparing it bit by bit.

For now Wiktionary data. Further info and a short article here:

http://www.voxhumanitatis.org/content/unlocking-free-data-parley-%E2%80%93-wiktionary-press-release

I don't have much online time these days. This will be better in a week.

Cheers,

Sabine

Sabine, could you explain a bit more how this works? Is this script available
somewhere, what language is it in? I assume it will have an acceptable
license...
I wouldn't mind being able to grab contents from wiktionary directly within
parley ;) maybe that's a possibility with this script. The last time I talked
to someone more involved with wiktionary, their opinion was, that the locales
from wiktionary were quite different, so it would be a lot of work to make such
a script. Maybe the situation has improved meanwhile.

Greetings
Frederik

Hi Frederik, well the script is not available under a free license as much as I know. Zdenek programs with Java and for now has only en.wikt data. But I will ask him asap and let you know. For each wiktionary you need to write a different script because people used different ways to create the wiktionaries.

There are issues with wiktionary, yes and it takes quite some time to get more or less clean data. We simply deleted all languages where we found problems.

As soon as I am back home in Italy I can work normally again - for now online time is really limited.

Cheers,

Sabine

[kde-edu]: OpenedFilesWidget.ui & AddMultiNodes.ui in Rocs

Hello,

I tried Rocs, but I didn't see some dialogs, for example there seem to
be not used at all:
	Interface/OpenedFilesWidget.ui
	Interface/AddMultiNodes.ui

Also, I don't understand the concept of the "Data Structure" combo box.
It doesn't change the behaviour of application in any way, may it still
be useful?

: Rsobotic Simulation game mentor request

Hi all,

We are a group of 4 BTech final year students of computer science and engineering, Kerala , India. We are developing a a robotic simulator wrapped with a game. We have registered the project under GPL and hosted in sourceforge this is our project page https://sourceforge.net/projects/virtualrobo/

We request if some is ready to mentor our project , please do contact us through sourceforge or through direct mail if some one is interested. here is the request we had put in sourceforge..

"
In the project which is a game/robotic simulator, the user can create a circuit for robot and simulate the robot to a virtual world where he can compete his robot with other robots to clear the levels in the virtual world game. the user is indented to create wheeled robots.

We would like to see if some one who has enough experience ready to guide us in this project. The main areas where we seek advisor/mentor are.

1) Circuit simulation

2) Game development

Some documentations over the design of the project is ready.

We will start hte coding of the project from 24th of this month ( 24/01/'10) and like to release atleast the first beta version of the game by theend of june 2010.

If interested ones contact us through email as soon as possible , we can have detailed chat about the project and start coding from the above said time."

Hi,

Are you planning on developing it with KDE librairies?

same question as annme marie asked, if you are willing to develop it
under KDE libs, I will gladly be your mentor.

[kde-edu]: VirtualRobo a new educational game

Hi all,

We have a team and a proposal for a new educational game. The project idea is as follows..

The project will be a simulator and a game. It will be easy to explain the idea in a user perspective view.
First the user will be provided a circuit drawing interface. the interface will show a PCB in which the user can create his circuit, and the interface will list the common circuit building elements like basic gates, wires etc along with micro-controller, motors, wheels etc which will be useful in making the robot. After creating the robot circuit the user can simulate the robot in the simulator which will simulate the robot to a virtual world which will be just like the real world ( ie the user can see how such a robot is going to behave in real world from its behavior in this virtual world ) . In the virtual world which is the game interface the user have to clear different levels of the game like Racing, maze solving, line following etc. In all these levels the user have to compete with other robots which are controlled by the system ( The user will be able to clear a level only if the robot is efficient ). Thus the game can be used for testing the robot.

The inspiration behind game is that the linux distribution provided by the government of our state to the schools lack such a game which is interesting, technical and educational at the same time.

We are planning to do it in C++ and Qt and in KDE environment. We have not yet worked with the KDE libraries but would like to work with th KDE, if possible.
I hope this is enough as an introductory description of the proejct we can have more discussion about the project if someone needs any clarification and if some one is willing to mentor us.

Regards,

Re: : Rsobotic Simulation game mentor request

Yes for sure we are ready to develope the game under kde.

We have been contacting the local schools for some time and have found that the game will be very much usefull in the educational field as the linux distribution provided by our government to the schools lack such a game. and will will be intended to the higher secondary and echnical higher secondary school level students.

I ahve send a mail to the kde-edu and kde-game mailing lists regarding the project, with subject ' VirtualRobo a new educational game'
