: New Application: Memory test.

Moin

I guess not everybody here is reading planet.kde.org so I am hinting my new
application here:

	http://cniehaus.livejournal.com/49234.html

I needed this app, so I coded it.

Is there any need for this beyond my school?

Re: : New Application: Memory test.

Hi Carsten,
Looks like a nice application, I think people will enjoy smth like that. :)

As a first step you could put it on the playground and hope somebody picks it and port it to KDE.

Where do you get the words from? If it could use the dictionaries from aspell or another kdeedu app (such as parly, not sure which one would be better) the app would be rendered much more powerful at once.

Bye!

Well, it is PyQt4, I am using only 2 classes with a Q that could be a K :-) I
doubt anybody would ever notice this difference.

Those lists are handcrafted and have to be. For example, the "Zwei Silben"
list has 58 words which are not interconnected, so for example
not "printer", "plotter", "scanner".
In other words: I think that we cannot use apell and other dicts here.

Well... today I looked at KVTML and Parley documentations and codes. What I see is KVTML (and parley,...) is mainly designed for VOCABULARY training (it is also mentioned in the documentations).
I'm not saying that something is missing in kvtml. It is doing ITS JOB very well.
On the other hand, FlashQard can contain different types of cards. Each one for a different purpose. Each type can have a completely separated editor/viewer.
Forexample, I saw a KVTML file for "guitar tuning standard fretboard" which contains the names of "notes" and their positions on "standard fretboard". all of them in text format. However, in FlashQard, we can implement a separated card type only for guitar with a visual editor/viewer for musical notes and their positions on standard fretboard.
I don't say that it can not be done in Parley. But Parley or other KVTML based softwares are not designed to do this unless we change their purposes.
(in fact, this is my idea based on what I've seen/read about these projects. so please tell me if I'm wrong...)

I'd like to work on other projects but currently I'm busy with flashqard :D and of course I like others to work on my project. Thats why my projects are licensed under the GPL ;)

[kde-edu]: kvtml files

Hello everyone,

some time ago I created two kvtml files with kvoctrain (kde 3.5.5) de-it. I didn't send them these days
because I had doubts about legal problems. They base upon a German training book for learning Italian. I
transfered most of the vocabulary.
I'd like to contribute to the community but I'm not sure if I'd violate some law with that. Do you know more
about it?

Thank you!
Matthias Lohr

It definitely works on Linux, you can even choose a script language that
is different from the application language, using the Script language
menu, and KTurtle will translate on-the-fly. But I am not sure about
KTurtle on Windows. Something to ask on kde-edu list (cc) or kde windows
list, maybe?
Patrick, did you try running KTurtle on Windows? How localization works?
I know that on Linux you can use something like

KDE_LANG=pt_BR kturtle

to launch KTurtle in another language (when running on an English
desktop for example), and then Portuguese will be available in the
Script language menu as well.

IANAL so I can't say for sure legally, but publishers (especially German ones)
are known not to like this. As an unwritten rule we have chosen not to make
public lists that are directly copied from published books.

If there are differing opinions, please let us know.

Thanks,
Peter
