Kontact for MacOS experience (continued)

Finally had some more time to test Kontact for Mac, and I am in dire
need of some basic input. First a little re-cap.

Initial testing can be found here:
http://kolab.org/pipermail/kolab-users/2009-February/009449.html
Wiki-page for the client can be found here:
https://wiki.kolab.org/index.php/Kontact_for_MacOS_(beta-huge-debug)

One note, I only had a Kolab 2.2 server install to test on this time
around, while I had a CVS updated 2.2.1 beta available last time. Should
also note that I feel like Bambi on ice with Macs, so bear with me if
some stupidities appear. It is however the same MacBook as last time.

What works:
-Mail and calender works as expected.
-LDAP look-up also works nicely.
-kolabwizard (as long as mail address and login name are identical)

Critical issues:
-I was totally uncapable of un-installing Kontact properly (removing
the /opt folder entirely and the .kde folder in the users directory was
not sufficient for removing user information (and the Bambi factor
kicked in hard when I found no | on the keyboard to do piping with,
handcuffing my attemps to chase down file locations). This needs to be
documented on the wiki, as one wrong key-stroke running kolabwizard is
enough to put people in a need-to-reinstall-the-whole-system mode.
-kolabwizard only add new users when ran repeatedly, no option to remove
the existing (which makes for a messy testing environment when combined
with the point above).
-I could not get free/busy working, i.e. I could not see others busy

Segfault on webclient !

Hi all,
now i am really out of options and so i consult you a state of the
last resort.
I really tried all debugging but things don't start to work.
Now after running 2 years without any probs (Updates of the machine a
distribution MADE ID NECESSARY TO UPGRADE KOLAB), but after 2 days of
work i give up.
I had severe troubles to get beta1 working (segfaults in postfix smtp
etc.) but now all in working except the webclient.
Apache segfaults before reaching the login screen.
I also tried with external apache+php and got a little bit further
but didn't succeed anyway.
Current OS:
Debian Lenny amd64 (Host has 4 GB RAM and multigigE network connection).

Apache2 Debian Lenny:
On external client in can login but after the login succeeded the
Browser windows is blank.
The source rerfers to: (Get error 500 without a segfault of apache2
(lenny))

I guess this would be a bug then.

<at> bernhard: I didn't analyze this in detail now but it did not meet
your expectation right? If that's correct I'd open a bug.

Re: Segfault on webclient ! (Solved)

Now i finally solved it on my own.
The problem was , as mentioned above, that the libdb-4.5 version of
kolab doesn't work without threads on apache2 threaded.
This is the same problem as mentioned in my fist post 2006 !
So, i build a statically linked debian version of db-4.5 and changed
the --with-db4=/kolab to the statically linked target.
Now ot works but how to migrate old (incompatible) syncKolab adresses ?!?
Perhaps anyone can give a hint on it.
kind regards

Mail and spam statistics on Kolab server?

Hi all,

I've been wondering about something: Is anybody out there creating/monitoring
their mail/spam/etc. statistics on their Kolab server? If so, what are you
using to do so? I've been through the archive but only found one thread from
2007 about mailgraph (and the fact that it isn't working out-of-the-box), but
not much else. Also, I have not seen anything related in the Wiki.

I had a look at mailgraph myself, as I would like to have some graphical
representation of mail traffic, bounces, indentified spam and so on, but
mailgraph would take some major changes to make it work with the default
Kolab (2.2.0) set-up. One of the biggest problem is the fact that all logs
are separated into different files, which is something that mailgraph cannot
deal with in its current form.

Hence, I'm open to suggestions about what else is out there that fits the bill
(i.e. produce some statistics - preferably graphical - about the mail
server's performance) and works well with Kolab without having to change the
Kolab configuration (or at least not too much). Any ideas?

Regards,

Thomas

It does not sound like a defect to me.
If you accidentially added more kolabDeleteFlag (s) you just need to delete
those extra ones and it should work again.

Good that you got it to work.
Maybe you can add a hint to the wiki or so to help other users
with this problem.

Did you describe the problem already in full detail somewhere?
This single line is not a lot to understand the issue
and give advice.

Re: Segfault on webclient ! (Solved)

Hi Bernhard.
Sorry for the misleading lines.
I don't know why ld wants to include the debian libdb-4.6 since
apache-php will be build with db-4.5.
So in my strace the last line was /usr/lib/libdb-4.6.so which is the
debian lib and then came the sagfault.
So i did this temporary workaround (32Bit seems not to have this
problem, anybody out there with the same problem on debian lenny
/32/64 bit ?)
What i have done: (Not to interfere debian deps to libdb3-dev on lenny
i build it from source)
1.) cd /usr/src
apt-get source libdb4-5
2.) cd /usr/src/db4.5-4.5.20
3.) commented out java things from debian/rules. (Are not relevant to
kolab).
4.) debian/rules build
5.) After build complete:
cd dist/
DESTDIR=/tmp/db-4.5 make install
6.) mkdir /kolab/RPM/SRC/apache-php
7.) cd /kolab/RPM/SRC/apache-php
8.) rpm2cpio /kolab/RPM/PKG/rpm2cpio
/kolab.new/RPM/PKG/apache-php-5.2.8-20081209_kolab.src.rpm |cpio -id
9.) chown root.root *
10) edited the php.spec
Changed the db-4.5 line to:
     --with-db4=/tmp/db-4.5/usr
11.) rpmbuild -ba php.spec

source install fails on Freetype installation

Hi all

I try to build kolab 2.2.0 from source on a vanilla CentOS 5.2 (=RHEL) - i386 host. The build process starts as
expected, but after about 90 minutes I get the error
--
make: *** No rule to make target `install'. Stop.
--
while compiling freetype. Further logfile information see below. The same error occurs with 2.2.1 beta.

Any help on how to fix this would much be appreciated.

FreeType build system -- automatic system detection

The following settings are used:

  platform ansi
  compiler /kolab/bin/cc
  configuration directory ./builds/ansi
  configuration rules ./builds/ansi/ansi.mk

If this does not correspond to your system or settings please remove the file
`config.mk' from this directory then read the INSTALL file for help.

Otherwise, simply type `/kolab/bin/make' again to build the library,
or `/kolab/bin/make refdoc' to build the API reference (the latter needs python).

Toltec is 1/3 the cost of Bynari.

Anyone care to comment what makes Bynari worth the upcharge?
