Kolab install: uncompress: stdin: unexpected end of file

Hello,

I tried to install Kolab on Debian 3.0r0, once with the
default kernel, once with 2.4.19. I downloaded everything into a
directory, switched to my useraccount and executed

$ sh ./openpkg-1.1.0-1.1.0.src.sh --prefix=/kolab --user=kolab \
  --group=kolab 2>&1 | tee > kolab.log

My kolab.log: http://sunflyer.ch/kolab.txt

# sh ./openpkg-1.1.0-1.1.0.ix86-linux2.4-kol.sh -v --prefix=/kolab
produced the following output:

<!--cut-->
./openpkg-1.1.0-1.1.0.ix86-linux2.4-kol.sh: installing into /kolab...

uncompress: stdin: unexpected end of file
./openpkg-1.1.0-1.1.0.ix86-linux2.4-kol.sh: installation done.
<!--cut-->

Now, /kolab is empty and there's no shell for the user kolab
(that means: user kolab exists in /etc/passwd, but it points to
a not existing shell). Can anyone tell me, what my problem is?

Thanks,

You haven't looked too carefully at that log, now have you? Ian noticed
that yesterday, default Debian installation doesn't come with compress.
Install ncompress package before trying to install openpkg and you'll
be fine.

Wild guess: compress does not exist in you system?!

Hello Zack,

I checked it, but it's so long, that it is possible I've not seen
anything unexpected.

I checked only for uncompress, beacause of the note in the
readme. But thanks for the hint, now it works. :-)

Apache build error

Hello,

Another question from myself, meanwhile I'm feeling very stupid.
I built in the last hours the kolab packages. Everything was
going fine until I came to the apache webserver:

$ rpm -bb apache2.spec --define 'with_fsl yes' --define 'with_ldap yes'

reports:

<!--cut-->
In file included from apr_ldap_compat.c:63:
/kolab/RPM/TMP/httpd-2.0.43/srclib/apr-util/include/apr_ldap.h:97: parse error before '*' token

make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
error: Bad exit status from /kolab/RPM/TMP/rpm-tmp.83020 (%build)
<!--cut-->

I already recompiled OpenLDAP to check for a compiler error, but I
found nothing (okay, that would not mean anything). What's the
way to fix this problem? I already asked Google [1], but without an
helpful result.

Thanks,
     - Andreas

Non Outlook Mailers on Windows?

Fine.

Some users (including me) don't like Outlook. We are using Mozilla. Is
there any way to use it with the Kolab Server?
Another Idea would be to port the K-Mailer etc. to Win using Qt for
Windows and/or cygwin etc.
Is it really necessary to start a complete new windows solution just to
mimic Outlook L&F? OK, I understand that many users "know" Outlook and
are not open for anything else. But what about all the others?
Perhaps it would be possible to find some volunteers for such a "Quick"
windows solution? I will contribute my spare time in such a solution.

It will work fine. Kolab uses IMAP and SMTP, which is Mozilla mail native
protocol set.

KMail is nice. May not be an easy conversion for win32 API - not sure.

There are already several clones for outlook. Check on
http://www.freshmeat.net and http://www.sf.net for likely candidates. Almost
any of them would use IMAP and SMTP.

Please don't create another project for a mail user agent. Surely one of the
existing projects could use some additional programming power?

IIRC kmail already works with cygwin though sofar nobody ported the
developement branch of kroupware.
