Get involved on KDE Development

Good day,

Hi All, I'd like to get involved in KDE Development, just wondering if there are projects that currently needs volunteers/help, I would like to start with something small, that would take about a month or two to complete.

first: welcome to KDE! :)

my usual question when someone asks "is there something I can do" is: what
interests you? what would you enjoy working on to improve and make better?
what would you appreciate being better because you use it and/or it bothers
you?

that said, there are a lot of projects in need of helping hands and don't
require year-long commitments :) kde-edu and kde-games are two great
communities to get started with and both have great need for participation,
for instance.

I'm sure that most projects can benefit from your help. Why don't you contact any project you're interested in helping improve?

Another example could be akregator. it's a great but slightly
unmaintained application, and a codebase that several Google Code-in
students have been able to find their ways around in.

Re: KDE 4.8 Thoughts

solid release. Its more stable, faster and better.

I still have one small issue though - slow rm/mv of large number of small files from dolphin.
Not very significant though.

Anyway it's not a bug. It's a feature.

Yes it rocks!

I found only a little bug, I have a multiple monitor configuration with an external lcd connected to the left of the main monitor. With 4.8 I have to reconfigure this setup at each start, in kde 4.7 saving the configuration as defult (there is a button for this) worked well.

Thank you for your great work!

Yep, had them with 4.7.4 also, although it's significantly nicer with 4.8. I
am using a newer intel driver than was originally shipped with oneiric which
gives me stability but it was working 'out the box'.

Re: Get involved on KDE Development

Good day,

Hi All, Thanks everyone for your prompt response, it seems kde-edu kde-games and akgregator are good projects to get started, I'll contact them and see if I can help.

Hey, Welcome to the Community,

Well, You need to get the sources, get the programs that you want to work on,
Talk to people that work on that program, share your ideas.
we don't 'demand' people to work on anything, it must come from you.

So, if you really wanna help, Search for a program within KDE
Community that you like,
try to fix a bug, ask questions on IRC.

and of course, take a good read at the techbase.

techbase.kde.org , it will teach you how to get the sources, compile
and create some small examples.

Best Regards,
Tomaz
