You are encountering the kind of problems, I have described in
http://kde-cygwin.sf.net/kde3/compiling.php. As I haven't compiled koffice
until now, I can only give you a few hints.

1. Koffice isn't a beginner package. If you are new with compiling kde
packages you should choose another single application package.

2. Make sure, you are using a koffice version which is compatible with kde
3.1.4. There are some differences between kde 3.1.4 and kde 3.2.

3. If you are using a cvs source don't use the head release, because they can
have errors. checkout a release using a specific tag for example

cd <koffice-src>
cvs update -r KOFFICE_1_3_RELEASE

4. koffice requires several external libraries which has be installed, if it
is already released as a cygwin package or compiled otherwise.

5. The described errors requires some analysis because there could be more
reasons. You can use

Re: Keyboard input not working in kde?

Hi Alex,

Yes I have the same problem. Have you had any success with it yet?

Does anyone else have any ideas?
Thanks!

multwindow mode problem

Hi,

First, KDE for cygwin is extremely helpful! Many thanks to its creators.

I installed KDE 3.1.4 today, upgrading from 3.1.1. I could run KDe
'normally' via

startx &

but not in 'multiwindow' (all windows just normal windoze windows)

start -multiwindow &

I get an error, identical to one in a post from February by Trevor
(http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-cygwin&m=107769264302613&w=2), where
the KDE
desktop 'takes up' the whole screen except the windows taskbar, and I
can't get any windoze windows to come to the foreground.

So, I wiped cygwin off my hard drive, made a fresh install, and
multiwindow worked fine. For several times.

Then, I started 'full' KDE with startx &, and now the same problem occurs
with multiwindow!

Following Ralf's suggestion to Trevor, I looked to see if the process kwin
is running after KDE is done, and it is. I kill it, and multiwindow works
fine, new kde progs start as windoze windows, etc.

But, why does kwin start? When I run KDE with startx &, is that modifying

Re: multwindow mode problem

Well, I came in today, and multiwindow KDE works! I honestly did reboot
and got the same problem yesterday, so I'm not sure what it is. Bad
karma.

I'll let you know if it recurs, and if I have any success playing w/ the
startkde script.

What happened to my KDE?

I've been running Cygwin (with X) for several years now on WinXP. A couple
of months ago or so I installed KDE3 and it worked great.

For some reason (can't exactly remember why) I switched back to
mirrors.kernel.org. I did several non-KDE upgrades, and everything --
including KDE -- still worked great.

Then a few days ago, I ran the Cygwin installer to see if there was anything
new. Wow -- a *bunch* of X-related stuff! I installed it all.

And KDE no longer worked. :(

So I switched back to using the Cygwin URL and saw there a couple of
KDE-related packages flagged for upgrading, so I did so. Still KDE did't
work.

So I uninstalled *everything* KDE-related with the Cygwin installer. Just
to make sure I then even removed the paths manually mentioned on the Cygwin
KDE3 installation page. I then reinstalled and ran 'rebaseall -v'.

It *still* does NOT work (though plain Xwindows with TWM -- startxwin.bat --
works fine).

Running 'startx -rootless &' (which is what I had been running earlier)
complained about a missing ~/.Xauthority, so I 'touch'ed one.  Still no go;
it gives me this error message:

xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2):
	no program named "/usr/X11R6/bin/xterm"
	in PATH

Meant to say I switched back to using the *KDE Cygwin* URL, i.e.

	http://kde-cygwin.sourceforge.net/install

Re: What happened to my KDE?

Don't be surprised... It's often the case... I have the same problem...
The only way to get back a working "stuff" is to reinstall completely
cygwin...
But sometimes I have to do it many times...
Maybe somebody else has a better "help" ?

Compilation error - cannot find -lutil

Hi,

I am trying to compile KDevelop 3.0.2. I have followed the general
instructions on the webpage for compiling apps under the kde-cygwin
environment but the "make" of kdevelop fails part way through.

  The command that fails is:

make[4]: Entering directory `/tmp/kdevelop-3.0.2/parts/doctreeview'
/bin/bash ../../libtool --silent --mode=link --tag=CXX g++  -Wnon-virtual-
dtor -Wno-long-long -Wundef -Wall -W -Wpointer-arith -Wwrite-strings -O2 -
fno-exceptions -fno-check-new -fno-common -DQT_CLEAN_NAMESPACE -
DQT_NO_ASCII_CAST -DQT_NO_STL -DQT_NO_COMPAT -DQT_NO_TRANSLATION -o
kdevelop-htdig.exe -L/usr/X11R6/lib -L/opt/qt3/lib -L/opt/kde3/lib
htdigindex.o ../../lib/libkdevelop.la -lkio -lkdeui

and the error is:

/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-cygwin/3.3.1/../../../../i686-pc-cygwin/bin/ld:
cannot find -lutil
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

In the mailing list archives, I can find reference to another "cannot
find -lutil" error (http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-
cygwin&m=107783718612306&w=2) but the solution provided by Ralf
was "install inetutils". I have the latest inetutils installed so, in my
case at least, this solution does not work.

I've had a look at my kde-cygwin installation and cannot find libutil
anywhere.
