Unable to start kdeinit: return code 57

Hi all,

I'm trying to get KDE running on my XP box, but not having much luck.  I have the latest cygwin KDE packages from ftp://sunsite.dk.  Here is what happens:

$/usr/bin/startkde
startkde: Starting up...
startkde: Running kpersonalizer...
call failed
startkde: Could not start kdeinit. Check your installation.
Warning: connect() failed: : No such file or directory
ERROR: Couldn't attach to DCOP server!
startkde: Shutting down...
Warning: connect() failed: : No such file or directory
Error: Can't contact kdeinit!
startkde: Running shutdown scripts...
startkde: Done.

I had to do a little mucking with the startkde script, as it failed even earlier before.  I had to replace the call to start_kdeinit_wrapper, because this command was not found, so I did this:
#LD_BIND_NOW=true start_kdeinit_wrapper --new-startup +kcminit_startup
LD_BIND_NOW=true kdeinit --new-startup +kcminit_startup

Doing a little tracing, I find that kdeinit is returning error code 57.  Googling that was no help.  Does anyone have any clues?  Thanks in advance!

problem installing kde-cygwin

Hi!,

I am following the this: http://webdev.cegit.de/snapshots/kde-cygwin/kde/kde3.4/
and I get stuck after step 3. After rebaseall I try to launch cygwin (I closed it because it said it was important *ALL* cygwin processes must be stopped) and it will not open.
I fact it opens but immediately closes again so I cannot launch kde as demmanded in the beggining of step 4.
I don't know either how to get more imformation about why the cygwin window closes so fast.

Any help will be appreciated.
Al.
PS: Just for info, I already had cygwin working for long time and I decided to install KDE in order to install Kile later.

Was there a change of late in the kde start utilities/locations?

A couple years ago, I installed cygwin-kde and it was really easy to start up.  But now, I can't see how to start it up.  I don't see startkde or startkde.bat or any such utility.  I'm installing from the standard Cygwin setup utility, on Windows XP SP2.  I even rebooted after a re-install of kde.  I have also installed gnome (have not started it).

Any ideas??

sources of kde-cygwin

Hi,

Is it posible to get sources of kdelibs-3.4.1-0?  I cannot start dcopserver with following error:

DCOPClient::attachInternal. Attach failed Authentication Rejected, reason : None
 of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authenti
cation failed
ICE Connection rejected!

DCOPClient::attachInternal. Attach failed Authentication Rejected, reason : None
 of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authenti
cation failed
DCOPServer self-test failed.
DCOPServer : slotShutdown() -> waiting for clients to disconnect.
DCOPServer : slotExit() -> exit.

and any of solutions I found on mailing lists doesn't work for me.

So and I want to debug it to see what's wrong.

Regards

Artur Kuras

I looked for QtGUI4.dll in my system and there is just one.

Res: the procedure entry point ..... could not be located in the dynamic link library

The QObject inclusing just took effect for a while. The Runtime error keeps happening.
My other guess is a environment problem with VisualStudio and QTLibrary specially related with the QListWidget class.
Declaring the QListWidget at the .h works fine however when I create an instance in the .cpp, the runtime error show up.
My .h:
#pragma once
#include <QListWidget>
#include <QPushButton>
#include "StatusType.h"

class CStatusListWidget :
 public QObject

 Q_OBJECT
public:
 CStatusListWidget(void);
 ~CStatusListWidget(void);
 void addStatus(CStatusType *status);
private slots:
 void clearList();
private:
 void init();
 QListWidget *m_ListWidget;
 QPushButton *m_ClearPB;
};
My .cpp:
#include "statuslistwidget.h"
#include <QVBoxLayout>
#include <QGroupBox>
CStatusListWidget::CStatusListWidget(void)
{
 this->init();
}

CStatusListWidget::~CStatusListWidget(void){}
void CStatusListWidget::init()
{
 QVBoxLayout *mainLayout = new QVBoxLayout();
 QGroupBox *mainBox  = new QGroupBox("Status List", NULL);
 mainBox->setLayout(mainLayout);
 m_ListWidget = NULL; //Just assigning a NULL is working as expected.
 //m_ListWidget = new QListWidget(); //Creating an instance will compile however break at runtime.
...
If the problem happens and I just make a build (instead of rebuild = clean + build), it keeps breaking even for a working state identified previously. The working state just return to really works after a rebuild.
I tried with different machines and the problem is the same, i.e., somehow related with QListWidget.
Anybody can help me to solve such problem?
Thanks!

Bug in QtAssistant HTML Rendering (QT Win source qt-win-3.3.x-8)

Hi everyone,
I just downloaded and compiled the qt-win source package qt-win-3.3.x-8 and compiled it with
Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 using the corresponding QMAKESPEC win32-msvc2005.
All went very well, there were no compiler warnings or errors, but when I started QTAssistant,
it rendered all HTML files wrong, that contained code snippets, all other HTML files seemed to
be ok.
Does anybody know, what might cause a problem here?

When running, the following message has been issued:

QScriptEngine::heuristicSetGlyphAttributes: char length and num glyphs disagree

Thanks
Dietmar

newbie: no config.cygwin-thread

Hello,

Please forgive the newbie question: Working from the recipe on
http://qtwin.sourceforge.net/qt3-win32/compile-cygwin.php I am stopped in my tracks at:

  $ . config.cygwin[-thread]

There is no such file - any ideas? I have ensured I have all the necessary cygwin packages - include cygipc.

There were no obvious make errors on the previous steps.

Thanks, Tom
