plans for KDE4

Hi all,

As aKademy is approaching I would like to do some interviews/articles with
several contributors about the KDE project and what we can expect from
aKademy. (As a sidenote .. I would like to ask for some help with writing
these articles.)

One of such a nice topic is what we can expect from the upcoming KDE4[1]. What
plans do developers have for KDE 4? Do we have so called "blocker features"?

Please contact me on the kde-promo[2] mailinglist or write me an e-mail if you
think you can help.

Regards,

Fab

I would check out the TODO file in kdelibs. There is quite a lot in there
currently even if it is kdelibs only.

Those features are completely useless for users and don't mean anything
for them.

yes .. as the article is (more or less) meant for them.

Feel free to invent something. Just enter random numbers on bugs.kde.org
and write down that this would be an idea for KDE4. Just add a "perhaps"
here and there ;)

sound set for kde 3.3: complete

Dear KDE people,

today I have completed creating the sounds that will replace the old ones in
KDE 3.3. There are 64 jingles and sound effects in total, taking up 1.7 Mb.
Although some of them might change a bit to better, this set is what I feel
will make KDE the best-sounding desktop ever ;-)

URL: http://artemio.net/projects/kdevibes/vibes/kde3.3

Here are the things I'd like to ask from you:

1. Rehearse the sounds, examine the 3.2->3.3 migration map, and tell me if you
don't agree with certain replacements

2. Spread the word to developers of games, toys and education application
developers, as there are around 25 new high-quality sound effects that thay
can get some use of.

Good luck to all, and sorry for buzzing that much about this ;-)

Sincerely,
Artemio.

"chaining" or "nesting" of ioslaves would be cool (zip files inside of zip
files inside of zip files inside of ....) as it happens often e.g. with .jar
archives.
(or gzipped text or html or...)

In amongst all the fatuituous responses, I though that at least someone would
have put in something about reviewing the planned features list for stuff
that was deferred from 3.3 (or is still TODO, since 3.3 is basically sealed).
See :
http://webcvs.kde.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/developer.kde.org/development-versions/kde-features.xml?only_with_tag=HEAD

I doubt that that is accurate for 4.0, but at least you can have a hint...

Chaining of io-slaves (Was: plans for KDE4)

We have that for quite some time already (KDE 2.x?) and nobody uses it and it
is broken half of the time because it doesn't get tested.

E.g. if you have a gzip file you can use URLs like
	file:/home/bastian/desktop_shadow.png.gz#gunzip:

If anything, I would like to remove it for KDE 4.

Cheers,
Waldo
