Incremental scanning

Hello,

I've been implementing incremental scanning for Amarok.

Reason for this is that with large connection on a slow
network share (sftp over ADSL for example) scanning can
take hours. Also currently all scanned files are lost if
scanning is interrupted. Even if it would takes few minutes
to scan entire collection, it is good usability to be
able to start playing something as soon as Amarok is
started.

I have modified amarokcollectionscanner to output one
XML block for each scanned directory and ScanManager
to parse this data on the fly.

Everything works well up to this point when i give
Directory instances to result processor. In this
example i have 2 directories with files in database.

(scanner scans first directory)

Following errors are outputted for each file:

[WARNING] [SqlScanResultProcessor] Found urls entry without directory. A
phantom track. Removing
"amarok-sqltrackuid://1ca15c03e1fe38d324e128f81afc39a0"
amarok: [SqlScanResultProcessor] deleteTrack
"amarok-sqltrackuid://1ca15c03e1fe38d324e128f81afc39a0" url id 107

Did you even try to click on the Gnome Menu bar? Apparently not...

Please go to the upper panel and select the Gnome menu. The Ubuntu Software Center is normally the last entry in the Applications section.

There you search for the package with exactly this name: ubuntu-restricted-extras

It will ask you to enter your password (if you are the only user on this computer) so you can actually install the package.

Then restart Amarok and it should be able to play mp3

Since you are a new user I strongly suggest you get yourself acquainted with Ubuntu by checking out the ubuntu-manual: http://ubuntu-manual.org/

You can download it with the button on that website.

AND text saying: (due to patent reason's) . . . Uh, yeah, ok, whatever.

Text says: Please install the following packages: ubuntu-restricted-extras and kubuntu-restricted-extras.

In the Ubuntu software center, have a look at the menu.

Information Needed on use of thread weaver in amarok

Hi,
My name is Janardhan, i am planning to use thread weaver for digikams as amarok does to utilize the power of muticore cpu.
Could someone please clarify my following queries:
1.amarok uses global static instance of threadweaver, and maximum number of threads to be used is not specified in code anywhere if i am correct.
Does it not consume too much of cpu making the computer slow. Is there a way to control the cpu used.

2. Is it better to have global static instance of threadweaver or local instances of threadweaver::weaver .

Cool.
I'd advise the following.
1) See [1] to get Amarok's sources and build them.
2) Check out this list [2] of all the bugs currently reported for
Amarok, pick some and submit a fix. If you'd like some easy ones to
get you started, this [3] is a list of what we call Junior Jobs.
3) You're encouraged to join us on irc.freenode.net, channel #amarok .
If you get stuck at some point, don't be afraid to ask in the channel
or even ping one of the operators. Also if you get stuck or if you
pick a harder task we can assign someone to mentor you, but we can't
do that until you pick a task and try it.

Amarok not taking account of m4a files when creating playlist files.

Hia folks,

sorry, I'm no list member. However as I did read I can psot to this list
even if not member, I take my chances.

Since I have installed Amarok 2.5 2 days ago, my playlists, I usually
convert using a python script from the iTunes Library.xml file, won't
display any m4a files when selected.
All existing mp3 files that are in the m3u-playlist will show up, but
Amarok will constantly remove all m4a files from the files it will display.

When I then go to some of the files on the Disk, I can play m4a files
without a problem. That works. I also displays these files etc.

BTW - when I start Amarok, it first take 10 Minutes to put the CPU/Disk
at full load. I really have to wait. On the older version (as provided
by KUbuntu 11.10), I could go to "tools/update collection" to make that
load go away ...

Anyway, just wanted to notify it.

Merry christmas to all of you .. :)

Cheers
Joerg

I was referring to Amarok not allowing mp3 file extension's. Again:

And as Jakob says: you probably just don't have the mp3 codecs installed. But since you didn't give any further information about either your Linux distribution, the Amarok version or the Phonon backend in use we can't really help you.
How about being a bit more polite and rational and give us the necessary information so we can actually answer you? Your mail appears to be an answer to an extremely old mail that is not even in my archives which span back several years, so it is quite difficult to answer you if you can't get your senses together and give enough information.

Also could you please disable HTML when writing to a mailing list? Thank you.
