I'm moving forward with this. Anyone interested in organizing some
Wicket-related program at the ApacheCon? The Content Technology track
is already pretty crowded so I probably can't promise you more than a
single normal session with speaker benefits (note that unlike before,
speaker travel is not covered), but we can also arrange space for
unofficial sessions, workshops, meetups, etc. To do this, I need
people who'd like to help in planning and organizing the Wicket parts
of the event. Any volunteers?

See the suggestions below and

information.

SUGGESTIONS

* People pay to see the scheduled content at ApacheCon. Provide
material which will reach and attract our paying audience. If you have
Geeks for Geeks content to present, please save that for the daytime
un-con tracks, or evening MeetUps/BOFs. Consider that people attending

Re: Wicket interest to a Content Technology track in ACUS09?

I will be at ApacheCon US this year and will be presenting a one-day
training (on Wicket) on Tuesday. I could do a session or two on
Wicket during a conference track. I had also submitted a paper for an
"intro to wicket" session, but it didn't get accepted.

Contact me off-list to let me know what needs to be done and what you
are looking for. I have no experience with hippo or brix, so if it
needs to be a Wicket / CMS session, I may not be much help - but I
second the nomination for Igor!

Great!

Anyone else planning to attend the conference or interested in some
Wicket-related stuff during the free evening hours?

That's just because the track schedule hasn't yet been decided.

OK.

No need to be CMS-related. Anything that current or potential Wicket
users may find interesting is within the scope of the track.

[announce] Wicket 1.4-RC6 released

The Apache Wicket team is proud to announce the availability of the
sixths release candidate for the newest version of Wicket - 1.4. A
lot of bugs have been squashed and several improvements implemented.
If you are already using earlier versions of 1.4, it is recommended
you update to Wicket 1.4-rc6 at your earliest convenience.

Eager people click here to download the distribution, others can read further:

We thank you for your patience and support.

- The Wicket Team

Apache Wicket

Apache Wicket is a component oriented Java web application framework.
With proper mark-up/logic separation, a POJO data model, and a
refreshing lack of XML, Apache Wicket makes developing web-apps simple
and enjoyable again. Swap the boilerplate, complex debugging and
brittle code for powerful, reusable components written with plain Java
and HTML.

You can find out more about Apache Wicket on our website:

This release is the sixths release candidate for the Wicket 1.4

Tim Boudreau doesn't like getModel() -> getDefaultModel()

http://weblogs.java.net/blog/timboudreau/archive/2009/07/api_design_vs_a_1.html

I guess he doesn't get why we did the rename. This reminds me that we
*really* should improve our release docs before we finalize 1.4!!!

Re: Tim Boudreau doesn't like getModel() -> getDefaultModel()

A good overall read, but he also seemed to miss the reason we have
getModel**Object**. He doesn't think that's necessary, but misses
that there is also getModel (without object) and the word does clarify
the difference.

Anyway, a good read on overall API design, though. I'd recommend it
to others with the caveat that I also disagree with his last part
about the rename.
