RE: Grinder 2.8.6 failure on RedHat Linux9

"/usr/lib/./libgcj.so.3" =>You're using gcc, not the Sun J2SE.

This appears to be a known bug in gcc:

http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-bugs/2003-11/msg01650.html

Check your PATH and CLASSPATH point to yuor J2SE 1.4.2_06 installation and are exported.

How much RAM does grinder utilize per user?

Approximately how much memory does the grinder utilize per user and what
does it depend on?
Does it depend on the size of the script? Is the I/O of logging to disk a
bigger limitation than RAM. I have to estimate how many machines I will need
to simulate 2000 users and I'm not sure how to go about it. Do you have any
advice?

Thanks in advance.

HTTPclient cache

Hi,

Is the HTTPClient library used by Grinder able to handle a cache ?
I browsed the documentation http://www.innovation.ch/java/HTTPClient/
but haven't found such an option.

Thanks,
luc

RE: How much RAM does grinder utilize per user?

RAM is unlikely to be the problem. It will vary somewhat dependent on the script, and the stack size be thread
used by the JVM, but not enormously.

However 2000 threads is a lot for a single JVM. With this in mind, I'd start with 10 worker processes running
200 threads each.

Also, bear in mind that all 2000 users will be using a single network card, and a single CPU. This may make your
test unrealistic. If you can spread the worker procesess across a number of machines you'll get better results.

how to get the value from response?

the following is a test script that i get it by TCPProxy;

1, insert a data into database
        grinder.sleep(8937)
        tests[127].POST('http://10.70.139.106:8090/test/jsp/business/addResourceAction.do',
          ( NVPair('RESOURCENAME', 'GrinderTest'),
            NVPair('RESOURCESTATUS', 'INVENTORY'),
          ))

2, select the data
        grinder.sleep(6641)
        tests[130].POST('http://10.70.139.106:8090/test/jsp/business/indexlistdata.jsp',
          ( NVPair('resourceType', 'SDHNE'),
            NVPair('queryName', 'SDHNE'),
            NVPair('execute', 'TRUE'),
            NVPair('FLAG', 'START'),
            NVPair('pageNumber', '1'),
            NVPair('RESOURCENAME', 'GrinderTest'),
            ))

3, delete the data
        grinder.sleep(2969)
        tests[150].POST('http://10.70.139.106:8090/test/jsp/business/deleteAction.jsp',
          ( NVPair('listResourceType', 'SDHNE'),
            NVPair('SELECT_ALL', ''),
            NVPair('rowCheck', '191499'),
            NVPair('JUMPTOPAGE', ''),
            NVPair('CURRENTPAGE', '1'), ))

the value, 191499 of "rowCheck" is created by application; so i cann't use this script multiple times bucause i cann't know the value of rowCheck of the new insert data. But at the reponse of 'http://10.70.139.106:8090/test/jsp/business/indexlistdata.jsp' it will include this value, So how can i get the value from response?

RE: Ramp up based on threads

This trick works for a randomized ramp up but the control on the current number of threads running is lost.

Thanks,
Sebastien

Admittedly, this was with grinder 2 but we achieved a slow ramp up using:

grinder.thread.initialSleepTime=900000
grinder.thread.sleepTime=0
grinder.thread.sleepTimeFactor=1
grinder.thread.sleepTimeVariation=0.2

if memory serves.

Subject: [Grinder-use] Ramp up based on threads

Hi all,

Did anybody find a way to perform a ramp up based on both processes and threads ?
I ask this because performing a ramp up only based on processes require a lot of system resources
as soon as a big number of virtual users is expected.

Thanks,
Sebastien
