ANN: Nic Ferrier is looking for hackers

I am leading a new commercial project to develop a new kind of web
based framework.

It is a dynamic content managemenent/orchestration service.

We don't have any money yet - but we can offer cool work and shares to
anyone who really contributes. We are talking to an investor so we
should be able to offer small amounts of money very soon.

If you're interested in hacking Linux, Python, C, Apache, Postgresql
or XSLT I would love to hear from you.

We have a number of self contained projects that someone could get up
and going with quite quickly.

If you're intertested either reply to this thread or me directly.

Thanks.

[PHP-DEV] Final call for papers: Asia Modelling Symposium 2007 (AMS2007)

CALL FOR PAPERS
ASIA MODELLING SYMPOSIUM
AMS 2007
27-30 March 2007
Phuket, Thailand

Papers are invited on any aspect of modelling and simulation for
intelligent systems.
Dealing with complexity often involves the use of intelligent and
adaptive design methods. New paradigms in computational intelligence,
neural networks, hybrid nets and fuzzy algorithms are being explored by
designers, implementers and managers to improve understanding,
evaluation and assessment of such systems. Modelling and Simulation
techniques provide fundamental support at all stages of the life cycle
in application areas such as industry, business, energy, transport and
the environment.

The Asia Modelling Symposium (AMS 2007), the First Asia International
Conference on Modelling and Simulation, aims to provide an excellent
opportunity to share and exchange technologies and applications in the
modelling and simulation of Intelligent Systems for professionals,
engineers, academics and industrial people worldwide. For further
details, see:

http://ducati.doc.ntu.ac.uk/uksim/uksim'07/Asia_Modelling_Symposium.htm

The conference will be held in Phuket, Thailand, at Prince of Songkla
University, 27-30 March 2007, in conjunction with Thailand's 11th Annual
National Symposium on Computational Science and Engineering, see,

Enable/Disable logging programatically.

hi experts

I want to configure Log4J or J2SE 1.4 logging programmatically. I
don't want to use any configuration files for configuring Log4J /J2SE
1.4 logging . I want to enable/disable logging facility at runtime
from my program. Sometime I may require to turn on only DEBUG,
sometimes DEBUG and INFO may be required. How can I do that? Please
help me. Any help would be much valuable.

Thanks

off topic: XML Request Transforms

Hi everyone,

I know this is off topic... but what really is on topic here anymore?

I've got an idea that I've been working on and last time I looked
there were still a lot of smart people subscribed here. I'm posting
here so that they they might take a look at my idea and I can gauge
whether it is, or is not, worthwhile pursuing.

My idea is for a webapp description syntax called XML Request
Transformations, or XRT (or xsltpages if you want to have a short
explanatory name).

XRT is a way of using XSLT to describe the top level bit of your
webapp. In effect it's a bit like a web.xml or an Apache config file.

But it's much more than that.

With XRT you can everything that you can do with mod-rewrite but much
cleaner.

XRT can handle dispatch based on paths (like in a web.xml) or dispatch
based on other things (like path AND method).

XRT lets you clearly show how a particular request maps to a
particular resource representation.

XRT can dynamically load code extension functions written in python,
this is a limitation of the code right now... I want to write a C
version that can call code in any language.

RE: Digest Number 382

Try using a action variable in the URL request of the requestdispatcher or set a variable in the session and
then use the variable in teh invoked servlet's service () method

hope this helps

how do we call a method of a servlet using RequestDispatcher. With request dispatcher we can call a second
servlet from one servlet, but if i want to call a foo() method inside the second servlet, how do i call it

manipulating the http requests.....

  Hi Guys,

Right now i have a servlet which is doing some processing. This servlet is the main servlet of the
application or the entry point to my web application. Now what i want to do is that i want to change the entry
point to my web application from this mainServlet to a new servlet (say newServlet.java). So now, the
request should come to this new component and then should be delegated to the mainServlet....also the
response should be relayed thorugh newServlet only... How can i acheive this.

One way is that i can modify the web.xml and for the URL pattern of mainServlet i will invoke newServlet
instead. But then in this case how do i invoke the mainServlet from newServlet then....Or else i could have
a filter before the mainServlet. Actually, this newServlet need not be a servlet also...the requirement
dosent ask this to be a servlet. it could be a java class also...what the requirement says is that that the
entry point should be changed...and the response should also be changed...but i dont c any other way of
chaging the entry point...since its a web application it has to be a servlet or filter....

Also, if i have newServlet, how do i invoke a method in mainServlet...say there is a foo() in mainServlet,
how do i invoke it from newServlet...

  Any ideas..?

  Best Regards

Sending multiple 100-Continue responses before a 200-OK

I have a need to be able to send multiple 100-Continue responses before the
final 200-OK response from a servlet, with a very similar scenario to what Dan
Rall describes here:

http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/tomcat-dev/200311.mbox/%3C3FA6CAF2.905 <at> finemaltcoding.com%3E

In my case, it would be on Tomcat 5.0.28. Is there any way that this can be
done? Even a Tomcat-specific way? If not (which is what I suspect), does anyone
have suggestions as to how I can deal with this type of scenario?

TIA.
