 The Jakarta project exists as part of the Apache Software Foundation (ASF). The ASF board delegates
responsibility for overseeing all the Jakarta products to a committee known as the Jakarta PMC.

[Jakarta Wiki] New: Adding To The PMC

   Date: 2004-09-30T20:33:37
   Editor: HenriYandell <bayard <at> apache.org>
   Wiki: Jakarta Wiki
   Page: Adding To The PMC
   URL: http://wiki.apache.org/jakarta/Adding To The PMC

   Explains how people join the PMC.

New Page:

The following describes how to add committers to the Jakarta PMC. Many parts will be applicable to other
PMCs, but not all.

== Voting ==

The first step is a vote on the private PMC list.

There are two variants to this. One is a mass-vote - used to bootstrap the PMC though unlikely to be needed in
the future, the other is an individual vote - used to add a single person.

=== individual-vote ===

Send a nomination/vote to the private PMC list. This mail consists of both the nomination and the vote, so
ensure the subject starts with [VOTE].
The reason for this is that a ''nomination for an individual thread'' quickly turns into a vote and becomes
unmanageable. Use a subject of "[VOTE] ''Insert Name'' PMC Nomination"

There is no rush, so specify a duration of one week for the vote by stating the closing date for the week. Also
specify the following text:

Unless you really mean the Jakarta directory of the ASF repository, yes.
The URL would be
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/jakarta/[tomcat|tubine|etc.]/{ttb}.  If
that's what you meant to say, then fine. :-)

Yep, exactly what I meant. Just too lazy to hunt down the full url :)

[Jakarta Wiki] Updated: Migrating to Subversion

   Date: 2004-10-04T10:59:41
   Editor: HenriYandell <bayard <at> apache.org>

   Added the SVN plan

Change Log:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 <at>  <at>  -2,6 +2,12  <at>  <at>

 Migrating from CVS to [http://subversion.tigris.org/ Subversion] is an ASF desired event for Jakarta.

+== Plan ==
+
+ * Every sub-project of Jakarta gets a subdirectory in the Jakarta SVN repo.
+ * They use a tags/trunk/branches structure within said subdirectory, though they could further
componentise and then use the tags/trunk/branches structure if it fits them better.
+
+
 == Positives ==

 One major plus is that it simplifies the life of the infrastructure team. They no longer need UNIX accounts
for each user, but can maintain users in htaccess files (behind SSL).

SVN migrations

I've updated the SVN page:

http://wiki.apache.org/jakarta/Migrating_20to_20Subversion#preview

Robert/Daniel, if you'd like to go ahead with ECS/ORO it sounds like a
good thing and we can all learn from the pain/joy you experience.

[Jakarta Wiki] New: LicenceIssues

   A first attempt at explaining the licence situation

New Page:

A list of licences other than the Apache v1 and v2 licences, and whether they may be used by Jakarta (and other
ASF projects by implication) sub-projects.

For a full range of potential open-source licences, see http://www.opensource.org/licences/.

 || '''Licence''' || '''ASL compatible?''' || '''Commentary''' ||
 || BSD || Yes || ||
 || MIT || Yes || ||
 || GPL || No || ||
 || LGPL || No || The LGPL's intent is that it could be usable, but the legalese is too poor ||
 || IBM CPL || No || A new licence may depend on both CPL and ASL, but ASL cannot depend on CPL ||

To clarify; a statement of not being ASL compatible means that we cannot contain such code in the ASF
repositories, or import their classes into our code. We can provide a plugin mechanism by which LGPL'd
plugins might be plugged into our code, though the configuration to do so should not be in the ASF repository.
