ECIR 2012: Final Call for Posters/Demos

Apologies for cross-postings

======================================== Final Call for Posters/Demos - ECIR 2012 34th European Conference on Information Retrieval Barcelona, Spain 1-5 April 2012 http://ecir2012.upf.edu/ The 34th European Conference on Information Retrieval (ECIR 2012) will take place in Barcelona, Spain from 1 to 5 April 2012. The conference encourages submission of high-quality research posters and demo papers reporting original and innovative research within information retrieval. Posters and demo papers solely or mainly authored by a student are especially welcome. CFP: Information Interaction in Context (IIiX 2012)

IIiX 2012: Fourth Information Interaction in Context Symposium
http://iiix2012.org
Nijmegen, the Netherlands, August 21-24, 2012

First Call for Papers

The Information Interaction in Context conference (IIiX) explores the
relationships between and within the contexts that affect information
retrieval (IR) and information seeking, how these contexts impact
information behavior, and how knowledge of information contexts and
behaviors improves the design of interactive information systems.
The intention of IIiX is to foster an integrated approach to information
access by bringing together members of the research communities in
information seeking behavior (Behavior Track), user interface design for
IR systems (Interface Track), interactive IR (Interaction Track), and
IR system design (System Track).

TOPICS
- Interactive IR issues
- Design of IR user interfaces
- Qualitative approaches to the study of context-sensitive information
seeking and IR
- Context-aware retrieval models
- Relevance feedback (implicit & explicit) and query modification issues
for capturing context
- Novel approaches to eliciting, identifying, capturing and representing
contextual information
- Task-based interactive IR and information seeking behavior
- Issues of genre, media, language, modality and structure in contextual
information seeking and IR
- Personalized and collaborative information access in context
- Contextual information interaction theory
- Nature of relevance in context
- Measures and methods for studying and evaluating information seeking
and IR in context
- Test collections for interactive or context-sensitive IR

Submissions are sought that integrate two or more of these perspectives
represented by tracks. While it is understood that one area might be
the dominant theme of the submission, the expectation is that authors
will provide an explicit discussion of how their submission informs at
least one other area. For example, a submission that primarily
discusses system aspects should provide mention of how the system
impacts interaction or behavior. A paper that primarily discusses
information behavior should discuss implications for interaction or
system design. Papers that investigate multiple themes directly are
especially welcome.

SUBMISSION TYPES: PAPERS and POSTERS
- Papers - IIiX encourages the submission of original, high quality
research papers that have not been published previously and are not
under review for another conference or journal. All submissions will be
reviewed by an international program committee. Full papers, describing
completed research results, should be no more than 10 pages in length.
Accepted papers will be made available in the ACM Digital Library.
- Posters - Provocative and interesting poster submissions, describing
work in progress or late-breaking results are also sought. The aim of
the poster session is to encourage debate, discussion, and future
collaboration. As well as being reviewed according to typical measures
of originality and technical merit, submissions will also be reviewed
for their suitability for an exciting and engaging poster session.
Poster papers should be no more than 4 pages in length. In addition,
authors of accepted posters are expected to include a 1 page image of
their posters (in PDF) as part of their FINAL submissions. It will be
included alongside the paper in the ACM Digital Library. This image
SHOULD NOT be included as part of the initial submission.

FORMAT
Full papers and poster papers should be formatted using the ACM
Conference style (for LaTeX or Word). Submissions should be made in PDF.
For submitting, please go to the conference site: http://iiix2012.org/
Paper review will be double-blind so submissions should be anonymous.
Please omit author names and affiliations from the initial submission.

MTAP special issue on Interacting with Multimedia

Multimedia Tools and Applications (MTAP) Journal
Special Issue on “Interacting with Multimedia”

http://www.icmc.usp.br/~mgp/mtap-si-iwmm.html

Important Dates
---------------
Submission of papers: 15 December, 2011
Acceptance/Revision notification: 15 February 2011
Revised manuscript due: 15 March 2012
Final acceptance notification: 15 April 2012
Final manuscript due: 15 May 2012
Tentative publication: August 2012

Description
----------
Multimedia content is complex to interact with for several reasons, in particular because media
components such as images, audio and video offer distinct interaction affordances. When interacting
with photos or music assets, for instance, users may have to deal with huge collections or with many
separate collections. As another example, when audio and video are combined in settings such as TV
environments, users may want to take advantage of the multimodal interaction offered by smartphones.
New problems emerge when the interaction involves 3D environments, given that navigation in virtual
environments may be a problem for many users.

Authors are invited to submit papers which will be evaluated in terms of originality with respect to the
state of the art, technical content and accuracy, significance of the work, and presentation
(organization, style and clarity). Moreoever, the appropriateness for the Multimedia Tools and
Applications Journal will be evaluated by analysing how authors compare their work with contributions
published in earlier MTAP issues.

This special issue invites high quality contributions associated with theoretical and practical
aspects of Interacting with Multimedia. Topics and technologies relevant to this special issue include
(but are not limited to):

- adaptive interaction with multimedia
- interacting with video
- interacting with audio
- interacting with photos
- interacting with mobile devices
- interacting with smartphones
- interacting with 3D environments
- interacting with sensors and other devices
- interaction workflow and cooperation
- interactive TV
- collaborative interaction with media
- visualization via browsing, navigation, querying
- visualization with augmented and virtual reality
- visualizing multi-dimensional data, textual data, multimedia data
- visualization infrastructures, services and applications for specific domains

Submission
Papers should follow the guidelines set out by Multimedia Tools and Applications
(http://www.springer.com/computer/information+systems/journal/11042), using a maximum of 18
pages including references.

Submission should be made using
