new to whups

Just installed/configured whups (after fixing a minor bug in it).
Looks interesting, but with no docs very hard to know what to do...

So what is the status of this thing? It doesn't look as bad as its web
page says it is...

Anyone have any docs/notes on setting it up or using it?

I've been messing around with it, modifying it as a Projects management
app,, rather than a Bug tracking app.

I agree that it has got a lot more going on with it than it's docs and
traffic on the list would indicate.
Some parts, such as the Query Builder, don't make any sense to me, are
incomplete, or I've yet to discover their workings.
Same with the Reports section.

Basically, you have the following data elements:

1) Modules - top level, I use this for Client Name.
2) Type - I use this like a template for Project Type, as each Type has
a set of:
2.1) States - I think of this as the Stages of progress that a Project
goes through...
2.2) Priorities - I use this to indicate whether things are on track
timewise, i.e. I use Priorities like Normal, Rush, Super-Rush, or more
recently, I use Green (OK), Yellow (Caution), Orange (Warning), Red
(Danger), Blue (Excellent). (If you see where I'm thinking of going with
this vis-a-vis Horde Categories, you're right on!)

I'd be curious about what kinds of things that you were changing.

The Query Builder is for putting together complex searches that you can
save, edit, and re-run later. I seem to be talented at breaking it, but as
of my last commits, it was actually working quite well.

Try it as of yesterday...

Most of the setup is done through the Admin screens (by someone marked as a
horde admin); with the descriptions posted, I don't want to start rambling;
was that a good start? Does it leave any more specific questions, or whole
areas?

That's a good one, but also see
http://www.horde.org/faq/admin/config/index.php#c5

#c5 and #c6 kind of go together to provide a full answer. ;)

I got that far. And from stumbling around, I found I had to create a module
before I could do anything else. And eventually that I needed to create
a type before I could do anything else. But, I didn't really know what
"type" was supposed to mean. Or any of the other things (subject, etc).

You previous message helped clear up (define) some of these field names.
I'll keep plugging away at it, and create some help file content and
what have you as I go... (But probably nothing until next week)

Mainly the interface references to the data. Such as referring to
"Module(s)" as "Client(s)", "State(s)" as "Stage(s)", "Priority(ies)" as
"Status", "Version(s)" as "Project(s)", "Ticket(s)" as "Job(s)", etc. I
have been experimenting with various combinations, and getting feedback
from clients...

I couldn't seem to figure out how to actually create and save a
Query. That second drop-down list threw me. Current Quey, Choose
Action: Hoist? Then the only criteria constructor is User Criteria, the
others do nothing. Maybe somethings broken or maybe it's me. A brief
step-by-step would help...

Interesting idea. Two thoughts come to mind. Of limited value to
most modules, but very interesting to modules like whups that can perform
multiple duties. Basically copy the "themes" functionality into the locale
world.

Create multiple folders under /po/, one for each "function." So we
might have /po/bugs/ and /po/projects/ for example. Set a preference or
configuration item that says which we want (bugs or projects). Test this
in common-header or whatever, and set the locale up to use the correct one.
This can be done very similar to themes -- no setting uses /po/, a setting
of "bugs" uses /po/bugs/, etc. I'm thinking that we would want it as a
config item though, and not a preference, as that is more logical in most
cases.

As people start modifying it for their own use, they simply need create
a new "locale" setup and then submit for inclusion...

I think this would be way-cool personally. Again, I can't think of any
other modules that would need this kind of "function" theme support. So
it might be something just for whups... But I think there could be other
existing or future modules that can also be multi-function and hence
use such a feature.

If it could be done with limited (I know there'll be some, but we can
probably make it easier or harder depending on how its done) inconvenience
to translators, I think this could be pretty cool. I'm cc'ing the i18n list
so that Jan and the other translators can weigh in on
feasibility/implementation details.

Odin, maybe. And I can see people wanting it for other modules for reasons
we haven't quite imagined yet. :)
