Re: [horde] Translation of Alpha

I began working on the french localization about month ago (when alpha went
out). There was a "problem" with a bunch of strings with some "_" in them
(all strings coming from upper menu I think).

Jan told on the list to wait because it was going to change, was it the "it is
going to change 'til stable release" or "the _ in strings is going to
change". I stopped working on it, for the wrong reasons ?

Thanks

Both actually. That shouldn't stop anybody from submitting updated
translations, if you really want to. You only should be aware that you
would have to do more updates when further versions (beta, RCs) come out.

Translation problems (translation present but not used)

I've been trying to update the tr_TR translation files, and I believe
that I have a good understanding of the proper procedure. I have had
some successful, but unfortunately everything is not quite "meshing".

I've been editing the "po" files then running:
./translation.php update -m modulename -l tr_TR
(using the correct modulename, depending upon the file)
then:
./translation.php make -m modulename -l tr_TR

My first problem is that some of the translations don't seem to work.
Example:
msgid "Mail & News"
msgstr "Mektuplar ve Haberler"
This is always shown as "Mail & News" when I open Horde/IMP in my
browser. Yet in the same file at the same time, I added this
translation:
msgid "Mail"
msgstr "Mektuplar"
which now works. There are numerous other examples where a msgid is
translated, but doesn't show. I can't determine any rhyme or reason for
this. The server that I'm seeing this on is using an older version of
gettext (RH 7.3):
# gettext -V | head -n1
gettext (GNU gettext) 0.11.1

I've tried this on a more up to date system:
> gettext -V | head -n1
gettext (GNU gettext-runtime) 0.12.1
with the same results.

Re: Translation problems (translation present but not used)

Hello Ben,

> My first problem is that some of the translations don't seem to work.

...

I've the same problem while translating Horde apps, and now I have the same
problem while translating some GNOME applications. It seems that the system
caches old translations, while some processes still use them.

You may need to stop and start Apache, maybe close and open your browser, i.e.
anything that may use the .mo file.
Also, I've noticed, the things get sometimes better by removing .mo file,
trying the translation (i.e. running the browser, you should see untranslated
strings) and install updated .mo file again.

I don't really know, what is causing this problem. Sometimes my translations
work like a charm, sometimes I see "cached" translations :(((

All tests made on Mandrake 9.1.

Regards,
VIX

Danish translation

Hi
I've been using horde for a while now, and I like it very much. I do
however not like the danish translation (trust me, it's bad and not very
complete). So I'd like to have a look at it. How do I do that?

Regards,
Søren

Try to get in contact with the last translator. If he lets you take over the
translation or doesn't reply to your emails, send the updated translations
to this list.

I'm the current danish translator for most of the modules and currently
in the progress in doing the updates for CVS HEAD.
Søren has contacted me off list and we'll take it from there.
