Help with Inventory/Report

Goo Morning Good People!

My boss asked me to write a report that will tell how many laptops in the organization.  I have been digesting the database for thast several day trying to find a field that would tell me whether or not a machine is a desktop or a laptop to no avail.

How can I use TrackIT Inventory to find out whether or not a machine is a laptop or a desktop?

The Workstat.CPU field will contain the word "mobile" for some latops but not for all.  So when I filter my report to show only results with "mobile" as part of the Workstat.CPU name, I ended up with ONLY 15 laptops.  I know for a fact we have at least 3 times that number.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Help with Inventory/Report

I created a report that would find all workstations with the name of
Dimention in the title. But looking back what I will proably do next
time is under the tracked Item of evey workstation it lists the
'computer' I was going to change the lookup tables so all laptops are
not listed as 'computer' and instead listed as laptop.

I could find and upload my dimention report if that helps..

RE: Help with Inventory/Report

That is a good question.  I can't think of a good way to do it in Track-IT.  Ideally the audit32.exe program should be able to pull this information as it is available with WMI in the "Win32_SystemEnclosure" class.  The object to be queried should be "ChassisTypes" with values that range from 1 to 24.  Maybe I will submit it to Intuit as a request for enhancement as it would be easy to do and very valuable.  In the meantime I could write a vbscript to check all machines in a domain for the chasis type and export it to a file? The drawback would be that the machines have to be on and the person running the script must have admin rights on each remote machine.   Anyway I have attached the chasis types below.

1 Other
2 Unknown
3 Desktop
4 Low Profile Desktop
5 Pizza Box
6 Mini Tower

8 Portable
9 Laptop

RE: Help with Inventory/Report

I also have a report that identifies all Dell equipment sorted by model (Latitude, Optiplex etc.). The only
problem I am having is duplicate entries often appear. We applied a recent fix from Intuit, but the report
is still coming up with duplicates. Even if there was a way to suppress the duplicate entries in Crystal,
that would help. Has anyone else seen this problem?

You can check you're not reporting on deleted Items, I had that problem once

Inventory/Crystal Question Update

Hello Again!

In my earlier e-mail, I asked "How can I use TrackIT Inventory to find out whether or not a machine is a laptop or a desktop?"  I appreciate all the answers you sent.  Here is what I was able to find:
The Workstation_Components table has a ComponentValue field that lists computer model names.  I ran a report on it and I now have all my model names.
Workstation_Components.ComponentValue combined with the following formula:
{WORKSTATION_COMPONENTS.ComponentId} = 38 and
{WORKSTATION_COMPONENTS.IsCurrent} = 1

Question:
How do I filter the data so that data containg ANY of the following is not displayed in the report: Power, Book, iMac, eMac.

When I do just one, namely Power*, my report has 9 pages.  When I do 2 (Power* and Book*), my report has 15 pages.  I must be getting the syntax wrong.

Thanks!

Lynx

Re: Inventory/Crystal Question Update

I had this problem, someone uploaded a report for me and it's
available on the downloads. What I was missing is that if you want to
filter seprate things with {WORKSTATION_COMPONENTS.ComponentId} you
have to open the workstations_components table twice and filter each
instance seprately.

Requester Reports

I need a report that can give me all the tickets logged by user. I can
either use a report that reports on everyone or my goal is a single
person.

Does anyone have an custom reports they can share to help me obtain
this information.

I don't really want to use Crystal Reports....

Thanks

Jim
