As much as I hate to agree with this, I do...

I purposely held off buying any of the newer products for my new house
because of my love for the Audiotron AND the CES announcement...

...the current Audiotron is still serving me well, but when I designed the
new house system, I definitely did it with the specs for the new Audiotron
in mind (plasma's, cable runs, etc.)...

While I understand that Turtle Beach had to react at CES, to go this long
without any news makes me feel like I did when I considered going with OS/2
2.0 and Microsoft kept pre-announcing Windows 3.0... they froze the market
and killed OS/2 (which, BTW, was far superior to Win 3.0)... I went with
OS/2 and it served me great (was running a multiple node BBS at the time and
Windows 3.0 couldn't cut it) I switched back to Windows when NT came out
(and OS/2 was dead)...

My point here is that I went with the best product available at the
time...currently I see that as the Audiotron...but I am starting to feel and
see its age and looking for a better product... maybe Turtle Beach will lose
me for a generation of their product (which I hope doesn't happen)...but I
am definitely in the market for an upgrade...

I don't know.  According to the specs, that Roku device supports the MP3
format only.  That's not as good as the current Audiotron, and for a
next-gen device, I'd expect it to support AAC and some other newer formats,
too.

And I don't really care about doodads such as "Roku Art."  "Transform your
HDTV into a stunning art gallery!"  Whoopeee.....

I agree that it would be cool if the Audiotron had a plasma screen and/or
presented its menus on my TV screen rather than relying on the little
display it has currently.  But as long as the thing plays music and is easy
enough to navigate with the remote, I'm happy.  I can read its screen just
fine from my couch.

Thats a bit of a pitty. Other formats and internet radio would have been
good... I didn't pick up they were missing when I went to the site.... No
webinterface too I'm guessing.

I think its pretty good IF you have a HDTV plasma on the wall! other than
that, I don't really want my CRT 4:3 TV on for a 'picture'

I hope the AT2 has a LCD screen. I really would hate to see it being a TV
only device......

Not to start a big discussion about competing products (please take replies
private), the Roku will have an API for developers to write extensions
(which will run on the device) that make it do whatever the heck they want
it to. What it ships with and what it is capable of are two entirely
seperate issues.

  Ah, but to drag it back ON topic ...

  The AT has an API also, so in theory it's just as extensible.  In practice
that API has some rather odd quirks that make it a bitch to code against.

Didn’t mean to start a off topic thread about competitors products was
just hoping that this discussion might open up some eyes at turtle beach.
As for the ruko though a developer with them has stated that it will
handle many other codec’s in time threw upgrades, Just as audiotron has
supported more and more threw bios upgrades. I’m sure licensing is an
issue as always.

With a open platform and what seems to be a promising API only time will
tell. I too designed the house to accommodate some sort of Media server
after all it is the wave of the current future, even tivo saw this and
added the capability of streaming pictures and audio to the entertainment
center.

With all the digital media that’s out there no one box will handle it all
and please everyone. But a good attempt to do it will surely set off the
industry and I’d hate to see turtle beach fall by the way side.

Me I’m waiting and watching closely before my next purchase, so far the
ruko has caught my eye, but i still sit patiently waiting... Full hardware
MPEG2 MP <at> ML and MP <at> HL decode this is a promising feature...

Mee too.  The problem as i see it is:

1.  TB made an announcement almost a year ago about a new AudioTron.
2.  To this day, nothing has been shown
3.  Each time a new competing product is announced, TB argues (and
rightfully so) that the AT is superior since it doesnt require a
particular OS.
4.  But if this is true, why havent the other companies added this?  They
all seem to rely on Windows.

I hate to say it, but it seems that I agree with this too.  Jan 8-11 is the
next CES, I can't wait to see what is announced there about AT 2.

cmd line mp3 tagger

Lame and I are not agreeing on genre's.  I tried using tag.exe, but it
looks like it does not support v2 tags.  Does anyone know of a command line
tool (either NT or Linux) that allows the setting of v2 genre?
