Sacrilege: Replacement for the M100?

<x-flowed>
During some searching I did from a running conversation with Paul
Treuthardt, one of the long-time list regulars, I found this 1999
article on the Web today:
http://www.brierassociates.com/news/colegrp/replacin.htm

Who knows? What sayeth the group? Any 'sperience with this ani-mule?

I loved this comment in the piece:
>"Ninety percent of the reporters, all they do is use them to write a
>story when they are out," Perrien said. "We have a proprietary
>program for writing -- it mimics the Radio Shack. Often, all we have
>to do is show them the power button is in a different spot."
Anyone have a bead on the special M100-editor-emulation software
involved? I'd also like to see it or read more about it.

Hello Steve,
I am interested in ReMem, expecting that it will give me more RAM to
handle larger files. I had a look on a few sites but didn't get much
wiser since I don't understand some technical terms. I have a M102 but
don't want to modify it the way it is required to install ReMem on it,
as modifications might be irreversible. I might buy a 8201A. Would
there be ReMem available for one of these two machines and how much
would it be?
Regards,
Ole

RE: ReMem for 8201 and M10

So far, there is no solid plan to make a ReMem for the 8201A. I can't get a
copy of the schematic, so I can't figure out how to adapt it.

The M10 should be possible, but I'd have to know how serious you are, since
as I say I don't have an M10 to do the trial on.

The changes are reversible, but you do need to have the skills to do the
work. The only changes that affect reversibility are-
1) the ROM must be replaced with a new one. That's an easy problem...I send
one to you.
2) you end up with 2 cut tracks on the board. All you have to do is repair
those cuts with two wires correctly soldered.

So, it is possible to reverse, but as I say you have to feel up to it.

cheers,
Steve

Thanks for the advice! I guess I should have thought of that.

Hopefully Steve can fix this bug :-) I run Linux primarily, which
doesn't have IE.

Just buy a spare 102 or T200. It's nice to have a spare around anyway.

I'm not sure there's much likelihood of wanting to reverse a proper
Remem install. It only improves the system and doesn't get in the way
unless you ask it to.

Dollar Store M100 Light?

<x-flowed>
LED book light (Dollarama)

Quote: "Considering I bought my wife a similar model from Indigo for $40
last year, the LED book light was a steal for a buck, as it does the exact
same thing: use a bright LED (light-emitting diode) bulb to illuminate a
book while reading in low-light or no-light conditions. This slender silver
doohickey clamps onto a soft- or hardcover book and, with the push of a
button along the side, slowly extends to its full height (with adjustable
angles). The book light includes three AG13 watch batteries. Another product
we found, an LED multi-task light (Dollarama) - also for $1 - can be clamped
onto books, PDAs and laptop computers thanks to its twisty "snake" neck."

USB Servers + USB -> Serial?

<x-flowed>
Has anyone tried one of the wireless "USB Server" things with a
USB->Serial adapter? Usually you plug a printer or scanner into these,
but theoretically these could support a USB->Serial adapter.

I'm curious whether I could plug a M100+USB->Serial adapter into such
a thing to get network access from my living room... without stringing
any cables (other than the serial cable from the M100 to the device).

Here's one such gadget:

webpages was : ReMem for 8201 and M10

I don't have an html editor, I have programs that export html. So, I save
as html and place on the website.

Any suggestions as to what free tools I can use to make a web page? I use
windows only.

I currently use publisher, and sometimes use powerpoint. I can use open
office but I find it more clumsy that MS office.
