Anyway you could make available the radio series?
Either downloadable or streaming broad cast.

Allan Rickman!!! He is a good choice, though I wish they could have
used Stephen Moore (voice from the radio series and TV miniseries and
voice of the first versions of the books on tap).

You can listen to it here -- under the "QuickTime" link, I think.

I'm sure there was a 2nd, with a rubber duck on the front. I'll check in the
garage on my way to work this morning...

Yes, there was a 2nd album. It was 'Restaurant at the End of the Universe.'
The records were actually re-recordings of the original radio series; The
BBC originally balked at the idea of a 6-album release. (I don't make this
stuff up...)

Are you aware of the third radio drama? No? Here it is -- the end of the
Universe -- and you haven't lived yet!

The game is still around. No need for emulators. Just go to

Re: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

It's a good time to be a Hitchhiker, and probably a bad time to
actively be doing things with names that are subject to lawsuits, like
"Sub-Etha Software" might have been :-P

(There's a Mac developer with SubEthaEdit out...)

And I have composition even closer, for flute and percussion, called "The
Sub-Aether Bande".

My LP recording appears to be of the TV series (which I also have on Beta
tape somewhere), not the radio series.

Is it a BBC thing? I know they had discs of programmes (but I didn't
know if they did audio from TV series).

Yes, I *knew* there was a 2nd album, something I also confirmed today <at> work
in section 3.2 of the FAQ...
<http://opossum.rat.at/~anno/DA/dna_faq.txt>

But alas, whilst I can locate the 1st album, I can't find my copy of the
2nd! :O I have a terrible feeling I got careless about 6 months ago when I
purged my vinyl collection... :(

Yes, and the pending 4th and 5th as well! I have yet to hear it - was going
to wait until it was available on CD...

I note there's a "collectors edition" of the original radio play with 20th
anniversary extras on 8 CDs, or a 'complete' version which appears to be the
same on a single CD in MP3 format. I'll have to check that out sometime...

Regards,

I looked at it again. It says it's from the radio series, but it has the TV
screen cover, so that tricked my memory of it.

I remembered correctly that it was a 2-LP set. It's dated 1979, Original
Records Ltd., 38 Long Acre, London WC2. Simon Jones and the crew in all the
familiar roles. It reads, "Based on the BBC Radio 4 series. Recorded in
July and August 1979 at Sound Development Studios."

And in an interesting look forward to the intellectual property debates of
the present day, at the bottom it reads: "When the events on this record
take place, only those who have not made tape copies will stand any chance
of being rescued."

I took some photos of it. Here:
Front http://maltedmedia.com/photos/hh-1.jpg
Open http://maltedmedia.com/photos/hh-2-3.jpg
Back http://maltedmedia.com/photos/hh-4.jpg

Though I was a Hitchhiker's Guide and Monty Python fan (I have their
multi-groove "Matching Tie and Handkerchief"), that was 20-plus years ago
and I had put all that behind me ... which is why the renaissance in that
comedy came as a bit of a surprise. I hadn't much been paying attention!
You guys probably know all about this record!
