Hobby Boards 8 Channel I/O Update

We are about to have to do another production run of our 8 Channel I/O and would like to get any
input on what you would like to see done differently or new features you would like to see.

Thanks,

Eric

{Spam?} Dallas 1-Wire

Hi,

Would anyone interested in selling any old Dallas equipment (Anemometer, Rain Gauge) contact me or reply back.

I bought a flashy AAG one but disappointed it doesn't run on parasitic power.

Regards.

New Hobby Boards Products

We now finally have the new Moisture Meter, Moisture Meter Datalogger and 1-Wire sniffer in stock.
Take a look at them and let me know what you think.

In the near future we will be adding a waterproof case for the Moisture Meter, a case for the
Sniffer and some instruction on how to mount the Datalogger in a 3" PVC pipe.

Thanks,
Eric

New Oww Release - 0.86.0

0.86.0 New Feature - Read DS2760 (TAI8560) as a thermocouple

A few versions back I added support for the TAI8560, but just as a
general ADC. I have now added support for thermocouple readout.

I have also renamed and altered the units for the ADC function.

Owwl protocol now handles the new data types.

I have changed the mechanism for generating the GTK user interface. The
glade file (which is xml) is now distributed with oww, and is read-in at
start up to construct the GUI. If you like you can mess around with the
file using glade3.

Oww 0.85.0 released - UVI sensor and WSI603 fix

Release 0.85.0 adds support for the Hobby Boards UVI sensor. Many thanks
to Holger for donating the hardware.

There is also a change to WSI603 thermometer readout, which should
improve its reliability.

Owwlog and oww_client have been updated to collect UVI data.

OWW reporting zero humidity from Hobby-Boards Humidity/Temp/Solar sensor during the day

I purchased a Hobby-Boards Humidity/Temp/Solar sensor about a month
ago and it had been running fine with OWW.

Initially I had it in my wiring closet for a nice burn-in period of
about a week then I put it inside of a telephone demarc box outside
while I worked on my new temperature pagoda. I did cover the humidity
sensor with a nylon sock. The readings probably lagged slightly and
it reported slightly warmer during the day and colder at night as
expected. Over the weekend I moved it to the pagoda and I thought it
was working nicely but the last few days, sometime around 10 am local
time, the humidity starts to dive and zero's out during most of the
day. I was thinking maybe the sensor was getting contaminated from
out gassing from the paint I used on the planter trays (white
rustolium or equiv) but it seems to clear up in the evening and tracks
with other nearby stations on wunderground. My new pagoda has a
fairly large sun shield (very large planter tray on top) so I thought
it was stagnant air but the temp sensor (separate DS18S20) is
reporting pretty close to surrounding weather stations.

But it just occurred to me that it might be the solar sensor! OWW
only supports the module as either a humidity or a solar sensor. Not
both. I assumed as long as I configured OWW to only look at the temp
and humidity sensor I'd be okay. I didn't cover the solar sensor so
perhaps it's getting saturated and causing the humidity sensor to go
to zero? The bottom of the pagoda is covered so perhaps it's getting
too much light from the sides? The telephone demarc box is made of
thick plastic so it's opaque but there are openings on the bottom for
cables.

I'll try to cover the photodiode and see if that helps.

Oh, I'm currently running Oww/0.83.1 for Linux. Debug level set to 4
and no obvious errors. If I bump it up to 5, I get lots of timing
debug messages that scroll anything useful off the page. I know
there's a newer version available but didn't think I needed any of the
newer features. Also the numerous timing messages may have been
something I had added when I was debugging something a few years ago.

Re: {Spam?} configuration errors

Sorry, it's hard for me to understand because of my poor English.
I meant that in the / usr / local / etc / oww there was nothing. But after
recent attempts have appeared the folder "stats" to the setup files,
devices and setupng. I don know how...
I tried to uninstall and reinstall everything I believe is needed: lbgtk,
libusb, libghttp, etc, but now something has happened that I never passed.
. / configure does not fail, make and make-install also performed, but the
application does not install. I have not enough knowledge to find the
error.
I have a question about GTK +: for oww is required version 2? Does not
work with version 3? I think I installed the libgtk2, and uninstalled the
3, but still is the same for oww installation and then some things fail in
ubuntu.
I attached last lines of command make and make install in oww, I hope that
gives some information.

{Spam?} configuration errors

Thanks Claude, for our fast response.

Well, there are many mistakes, and I do not know where to start. Also, there's the language problem, I have to use a translator.
I am going to answer your questions in order.
I do not know how to perform a clean installation, do not know how I can completely uninstall oww.
I created a folder on my desktop with all programs that I think are needed. libusb, gtk, etc. Besides oww. To install, I entered the folder oww and typed ./ configure, sudo make and sudo make install. I see in / usr / local / etc is created a folder called oww, but has not created "stats". Typing Owwnogui, it says can find setup in  "stats" and pick the folder oww. It is a hidden file, where I see all the settings right. But fails username / password incorrect for Weather Underground. Neither is connected to CWOP.
I've tried manually creating the folder stats in / usr / local / etc / oww, and copying the setup files and devices. But then not start nothing. I have performed this operation by opening nautilus as root, not using mkdir.

I hope I explained well
Thanks

configuration problem

Hello,
I am new on the list, salutations.
Firts, sorry for my english.
I've been using oww on Ubuntu for years  and recently I changed the system to Xubuntu. I have struggled to reinstall the gui, and finally a made it. But I get errors, according to the following cases:
- Checking the "localhost": Error when loading setup from / usr / local / etc / oww / stats. I think it's because they have not created this directory. No data are on the screen
Unable to conect to localhost

-Cheking "local": There are data on the screen but the same above error appears that says could not load the setup. And then it says invalid user on Wunderground, although it is correctly configured.

- Executing oww without "sudo" in addition to the above gives "no write permission on / usr / local / etc / oww / stats.

Running owwnogui, I found that being unable to load the default configuration directory, and takes from the folder where i  done the installation.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Java nio

Has anyone written a java CWOP uploading client class that use nio instead of the traditional java io on a socket? Specifically, I want to connect, get the server's connection response, send the logon info, get the server's logon response, wait a bit and send the data and close the connection. I do this for nio's nonblocking feature.
At this point, from examples gleaned via Google, I have a class sending the data using nio with no attempt at getting the server response and it is working. I have another test class using the nio Framework wrapper that does what I want when ran as standalone from the main method with hardcoded data, but when I incorporate it into the weather program, it works as I want except that it persists the connection to the server. I end up with my CWOP id showing all over on the server status pages. I can't figure out how to tell it to close the connection. The documentation for nio reads like computer desk assembly instructions and the nio Framework wrapper which is supposed to make it easier,is too hard for my puny brain too.
Speaking of server status pages, for quite some time now, the CWOP-2 server in Montana will not display a status page as all the others do. Anyone know why?

Oww on BeagleBone

I just received a BeagleBone (for a project at work):

http://beagleboard.org/bone

Naturally I had a go with Oww. After installing a few developer packages
(using the opkg system - much like ipkg on Optware) building owwnogui
natively on the BeagleBone was quite straight-forward. The kernel driver
for the AAG TAI603B was already installed, so no problem. Even a DS9490R
works.

Just thought I'd share this news, as the BeagleBoard makes a neat little
embedded computer. Its abilities go way beyond running a little thing
like Oww of course.

See http://oww.sourceforge.net/ for a picture.
