I believe the Mosaic code has long gone since IE 4 (Trident engine
instead of Spyglass Mosaic).

[EE] Looking for low cost small relay

Good day to all.

I'm re-working a project that currently uses Aromat / NAIS JS1 relays
- footprint is about 0.65" x 0.875". I now need to fit 2 relays into
the area formerly occupied by one relay or a little larger. I
certainly don't have enough room for another JS1 relay.

Relay needs to be 24 Vdc, contacts rated at 1A resistive 24Vac

This is low production volume - perhaps 1000 - 1500 pieces per year.

I'm having a hard time finding low cost small relays! Lots of small
relays (but not low cost), lots of low cost relays (but not small).

My target price is $0.40 or so in thousands.

I'm hoping that someone has a suggestion.

Many thanks!

dwayne

I could see with the code that I have.

Thanks for your help,

Dwayne,

I went on this same quest last fall for a new project. I spent the better
part of a day scouring Digikey, Mouser, several other distributors and
relay manufacturer's websites.

Sadly, I came to the conclusion that the JS1 style relay is the lowest
cost/space relay available. Anything smaller is more expensive and anything
larger is either overkill/too big/more expensive. It also seemed to me that
everyone and their brother makes a JS1 compatible relay but the smaller
relays are less standardized. I suspect that's one reason they're not as

I've used the Song Chuan 842 series. Contacts are rated nominal 3A @ 125VAC or
28VDC. So far quality and performance has been acceptable, though I'm not using
them at anything near their maximum ratings.

Last time I bought them here in NZ the 842A-1C-C-12VDC cost me NZ$0.88
(~USD0.50) for several hundred pieces, from Apex Electronics

Copied/pasted directly from IE6:-

"Based on NCSA Mosaic. NCSA Mosaic(TM); was developed at the National
Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois
at Urbana-Champaign."

But IE7 doesn't mention it.

Many thanks!

Cost is still a little more than I wanted (these are about double the
JS1 relays based on Mouser's thousand lot pricing) but I think I can
make them fit.

I'll keep looking but this gives me a good fall-back position.

Thanks again!

Xiaofan

What's IE8 like - I'm using Firefox & IE6 mostly (IE7 at home if I
have to use IE).
