Lego S <at> H has Ultimate Builders $48

Just FYI...

shop.lego.com has Ultimate Builders on sale.

I thought it had been discontinued.

Elad, thank you for your indication!

This site is very good, good price and good shipping. They have shipping to
Israel, what is most important.

And its good to know that we have people in Israel that are interested in
MindStorms too.
Would you mind if I keep in touch with you by mail?

Mindstorms 3.0 Wish List

I'm giving a presentation about Mindstorms on Wednesday. I have a slide near the
end that talks about all the stuff I know people want to see added. Here's what
I have so far:

RCX
===

* RC communication (but keep the IR port, too)
* more I/O ports
* faster processor
* more memory
* bring back the AC adapter jack
* DCC for use with LEGO Train sets

New / Improved Sensors
======================

* more sensitive / better light sensor (can see color, not just light intensity)
* more sensitive rotation / angle sensor (especially at very low or very high
  speeds)
* motion / distance / proximity sensor
* pressure sensor
* sound sensor
* magnetic sensor
* gyro or compass direction sensor

Mechanical Things
=================

* servo motor

Jordan,

I guess I'll represent the populace of the Official Lego MindStorms Forums
here.

We've had a discussion going on this very topic (mechanical and
mindstorms-specific) for about four years now on and off. As with most
forums we often go off-topic, but there are scads of wishes in this discussion.

http://chat.mindstorms.lego.com/webx?50 <at>  <at> .ee6f5ce/526

If that link doesn't work, which is rather likely due to the way the forum
software works, you can still get in. Go to http://mindstorms.lego.com,
click on the Forums button on the lower header bar, click through the TOS
and enter the "Dear Lego" folder. Then click on the discussion entitled
"Dream Add-ons" or something to that effect.

I'd like to see color camera (and sound?) support without having my bot lug
around a 15' cable. How about some wireless camera or a camera that will
plug in to said RCX and send data through it?

Re: Mindstorms 3.0 Wish List

What I'd like to see is MUCH more elaborate expansion capability fot a
completely new RCX paradigm.

Using something like, say, pcmcia-ish cards to add new capabilities to
the unit as desired. One card might add a dozen sensor inputs, while
another card might add an extra half-dozen motor outputs (with, perhaps,
facilities to power extra motors from an auxiliary battery source to
miminize drain on the controller). There may be other types of cards for
more elaborate functionality.

There might also be a need for cards that would add on more "slots" in a
daisy-chain style, much like firewire or USB hubs. The sky could be the
limit. And of course you could mix and match cards as desired to
accomplish whatever tasks your unit needed.

Did you mean 'RF' communication?

Thanks

I think all these would be nice. However I think the 2 I'd like to see first are
more I/O and more memory.

I think this is mostly a software issue, and AFOL solutions (well at least
<http://home.surewest.net/markril/lego/dcc/index.html one>) are already
available. Note that more memory and faster processor would help in this area
though.

Of course it would be nice if there was a DCC equiped train motor available, or
train wheels that could connect to already available motors. But I think I'd
rather see 3rd parties developing these.

I pretty much agree with what's there. Top priority has to be a power input
jack, for running static exhibits.

A proper angular input sensor, and an angular output (i.e. servo). Gyro/compass
would be a big help.

If it's going to stay on batteries, then a relay or amplifier.
