Using .lsc files with RIS 1.5?

Hello everyone. I have a RIS 1.5 and I'd like to use a .lsc file - is 
this possible? I've downloaded the 2.0 SDK, but I'm still missing one 
header file - RCX2Def.h. Is there anything I can do?

Presumably one solution would be to get the 2.0 upgrade CD, but this 
doesn't seem to be available any more - in the UK at least, as far as I 
can determine.

Hi !

Thank you for your advices and tipps concerning my problem.
I'm not quite sure, how I am going to replace the IR - interface, 
but I think I'll use a bluetooth - module or or just normal radio - 
communication instead of IR. 
I know, that this won't be an easy thing to do, because I'll have 
to use the bluetooth- or else protocols instead of the 
IR - protocol in the navigation - software. I also plan to include
a compass - sensor for positioning the robot more 
excactly, because now I'm just working with a rotation-sensor.

Well, future will show how that will work

I would recommend using BricxCC to edit/compile/download your .lsc file.  I'm
not sure what is in RCX2Def.h but if you post the .lsc contents (or email them
to me) I'm sure I can figure out how to use the .lsc without needing the
RCX2Def.h header file.  You should also download and install the 2.5 SDK if you
haven't already.

I tried to email this but AOL appears to be blocking me.

Thanks for your offer of help. I've got the 2.5 SDK installed, and I'll
download BricxCC as soon as Sourceforge comes back up.

The .lsc file is for a robot I've built from the Syngress book "10 Cool
Lego Mindstorms RIS 2.0 Projects". I've attached it, so hopefully you
can tell me how to modify it so I can get it to work.

I sent you an email with a revised program.  To summarize here:

1. comment out the #include <RCX2Def.h> line
2. comment out the rcx_ClearTimers line

Subject: End of Mindstorms

Hi Everybody, I have the badest new of the world:

LEGO stop Mindstorms products.

I hear it of several persons, LEGO shop on Paris (they won't receive other RIS
box or additional box) and also from LEGO staff.
They have stoped RIS production 3 months ago.

They should stop Spybotics production too.

They stop it cause they do not sell enough boxes....

For first time in my LEGO life, I am very disapointed.

So I will buy Fishertechniks!!!!

At Brickfest 2003 in August Brad Justus clearly stated:

A: It's a real product and it is staying. It IS expensive, so that cuts into
where it can be sold, it probably will never be a product at WalMart(tm) for

Just because they stop production doesn't mean the line is dead.
Who knows how much stock LEGO have in warehouses?  Plus, it seems to me that
LEGO shop employees most likely do NOT know LEGO's exact plans with regards to
the future of product lines.  

I remember recently hearing the comment that no LEGO product line is ever truly
dead...the line may change name, not have any new sets for a few years, but
nothing is truly ever dead.  

Remember the threads about Technic being dead?  And this summer we got 5 new

I' m agree, Mindstorms is a revolutionnary product and may be I am too negative.

But there is less and less mindstorms additional box (like vision command)....

I' m sure a new "robotic LEGO product" will appear..but when ???

Last week I was in LegoLand at Billund, Denmark. They are adding _more_ 
interactive Mindstorms exhibits, based on the Mars Lander. I also had 
meetings at Aarhus University with people who work in the Lego lab there:

and conducted an all-day seminar on JCX and use with Legos.

We left three production JCX systems there, in Lego trackbot chassis, with 
working sonar navigation. Here's the start of a web page detailing these,

At no time was there any mention of RCX being discontinued. In fact it is 
very much alive and well and is being used in a number of educational 
programs as you can see at the legolab link above. I especially like the

We've just purchased several for use with JCX, and had no trouble 
purchasing RIS 2.0 systems at local ToysRUs. They are available from Lego.com.

So until there is some official word from Lego I'd delay a funeral for RCX 
or Mindstorms. As Mark Twain said "The reports of my death have been 
greatly exaggerated".
