Re: Re: Left handed dvorak

I'm pretty sure the home keys are DTHE, or EHTD, as the case may be. It
seems the four colors are finger assignments, although I don't know who
came up with those. I don't remember ever seeing a chart of "official"
finger assignments. I'll try to look around when I have a chance.

Yeah. Right after we got slashdotted people were ordering like 10 zines at a time and I
quickly ran out. With the surplus gone I have to make each zine as the orders come in on my
laser printer. So I switched the PayPal link so that you can only order one. As you pointed
out though, you can go to the Street Team
page and print out as many copies as you want! That way, if you need multiple copies
you can just make them yourself! And I can get more sleep. :)

If you really want more than one copy though, you can also email us and we should be able
to accomodate most requests.

Alec.

No problem. The street team version is fine. That tip about stapling
on the floor was very helpful. You go ahead and sleep. :)

dvorak typing = learning disability

ETS educational testing service only gives the GRE exam essay
section at their test centers on their computers. i have not gone to a
center to see, but email from ETS tells me they are not windows based.
did not say if linux or unix etc.

when both my sons were about 8 years old, i taught them dvorak only.
went great thru college until this obstacle.

irony now is that my sons would have to prove to ETS that only knowing
dvorak qualified as a learning disability for ETS to consider a request
for them to even write their essays longhand. (i'm sure ETS wouldnt let
them type on a laptop or install a keyboard mapper to their pc's.)

sunnysoft.cz is alive and selling interwrite for ppc's 02 and 03. you
have to request their dvorak layout. worked best with wm02 and the
wired stowaway keyboards. w the bluetooth stowaway keyboard the 8.5
ver seems ok but the layout needs some tweeking because the cursor keys
conflict w the letter z.

Re: dvorak typing = learning disability

This would be an interesting question to bring up on a ADA list
and/or with a lawyer. Or simply threaten to sue, based on the
grounds that it is such a simple alteration, and to bring a lawyer in
wouldn't be worth their time or money.. (of course, this could
depend on how sensible they are)

Both Linux and Mac are just as switchable as Windows. No idea about Unix,
guess it would depend on whats running on top. Obviously there would have to
be a GUI, can not imagine them having the public come in and take tests
from the command line:)

Re: dvorak typing = learning disability

Hmmm. I wouldn't even hint at suing unless I've talked to a lawyer and
know how I stand.

What I'd try first is get my doctor to write a note saying I use Dvorak
because QWERTY causes me pain, and show it to them. Mention that Dvorak
is an ANSI standard layout (look around, the number's on a website
somewhere. If I can find my Cassingham I'll post it). To be perfectly
honest, you can type a few minutes on QWERTY if you've never tried it.
It'll probably hurt.

If that doesn't work, then I'd check with a lawyer to make sure the ADA
applies to that organization, and ask the lawyer how to approach the
problem.
