Dvorak typewriter

Hello,
I am interested in acquiring a Dvorak typewriter. Apparently,
Royal produced typewriters in the 1930s or 40s with the Dvorak
layout, and possibly Smith-Corona did as well. Anybody got one for
sale? Anybody have suggestions on where to look? I'm guessing that
actually locating one of these machines could be pretty tough.

RE: Dvorak typewriter

Smith-Corona manufactured them into the 1970s, perhaps later. Some years ago
I found, and purchased, a manual Smith-Corona with the authentic Dvorak
layout, including Dvorak's original arrangement of the numerals. Sorry, I'm
afraid I'm not eager to sell it.

Royal and some other manufacturers produced small batches.

If there is enough interest, we can have some new Dvorak typewriters made up
to our specifications. There's a company in India that still produces manual
typewriters. We might need a minimum order of a few dozen units to get a
custom keyboard, but it should be feasible. Who would be interested?

Thanks for the reply. I myself might be interested, depending on the
cost. Could you find out what the cost per unit would be, including
shipping to the United States, for the minimum order of typewriters?

I would love to find a Smith Corona SL500 portable electric key disk so
that I can use my existing machine as Dvorak

as someone else said, it would depend on the price

I, for one, might be -- for a reasonable price. Thanks.

Re: Dvorak typewriter

Why would anyone want a manual typewriter? A basic
electric typewriter would be good, but not a manual.

A Royal Dvorak typewriter from the 1930s was offered on eBay in
November 2001. It sold for quite a packet. Anyway, that and other
auction sites could be worth watching.

RE: Dvorak typewriter

I would want an electronic typewriter as much as a manual one. That is, not
at all. But some people buy paintings, others buy typewriters, nothing wrong
with that.
