I just tried this and it appeared to work. The jffs2 file system seems to be
created on the fly while booting. It took some seconds when the initial
gpe.conf was copied to it, but the then everything went fine. However, while
shutting down I got 2 messages:
> jffs2: No clean _or_ dirty blocks to GC from! Where are they all?
> jffs2: Couldn't find erase block to garbage collect!
I'm not quite sure what they mean. Maybe they'll go away after some garbage
has amass by file operations. Or do we have to flash an empty jfffs2?

I'll have a look at your new images at the weekend. I really appreciate your
efforts!

Hi Guys

The jffs2 can be created as partial file system image as you have done.
Then the resulting FS on Simpad will be incomplete and the kernel
complains as you discribed below.
You can also create a complete jffs2 FS image. It will take the size of
the full partition and will be correctly initialised when you load
it onto the Simpad. Erasing the partition before is unnecessary in
this case.  Use the option --pad.

More recent GPE image for the SIMpad available?

Hi list,

I'm using my SIMpad primary as X-terminal. The GPE image fits very good.
My problem is, this X-server is quite unstable and tends to crash at
least every 15 minutes when using apps like kpdf or konqueror (even more
often when using the GPE scratchbook).
Recently I've tried to update the packages using the familar unstable
feed. After some problems with ipkg itself and a lot of trouble with the
packages overwriting config-files I've modified myself I finally got my
SIMpad updated. After a reboot (I thought it would be good because of
libc6 got updated) the bootloader is now unable to find the kernel image...
So before flashing 0.90rc1 again I ask if someone could provide a more
recent GPE image?

The internal serial port worked in earlier versions. I made a patch to add 
proper rtc/cts/dtr support. Is it that patch you added?

I had a patch for some opie lib, that prevented opie from switching off 
dect/bluetooth power when booting into opie. Is this included? 

I'll check your version as soon as possible and it's nice to hear, that my 
patches are being used.

images with kernel 2.4.27 available for testing

Hello,
I just made images+ipkg available with a more recent kernel than 0.9rc (which 
was 2.4.25).

I ported the patches from 2.4.25 to 2.4.27, with the following additions:
- simpad-proc-sys-board.patch (/proc/sys/board patch from Till Harbaum)
- simpad-serial.patch (to get access to the internal; serial port, am I right 
Guylhem?)
- mppe-20040216.patch (add MPPE encryption for PPP)
- 2.4.27-mh1.patch (bluetooth patches from Marcel Holtmann)

If you have any other patches to add to this list, I could add them in a future 
build.

There are images available for opie, GPE and E

The GPE packages include minimo, firefox & thunderbird for your own testing 
pleasure.

http://devernay.free.fr/hacks/opensimpad/

Feedback is welcome, except for problems with getting files from the web site 
(I'm not responsible for that, just try again)

Great news! I thought that Linux on Simpad had become a dead project!
Please send short desciption how to load images on Simpad. I'm not
familiar with new boot loader.

1. run a Flash Erase
2. serload blupdater.img
3. if you got a CF-Card, simply format it as vfat (for Windows FAT)
4. Place the jffs2-Image in the root-directoy of the card
5. rename the jffs2-File to simpad-rootfs.jffs2
6. insert the card into your simpad
7. Power on and wait

Also from the same thread, for subsequent installs just put the image on a 
CF card and do:

copy hda1:/simpad-rootfs.jffs2 root

at the boot> prompt from a connected serial terminal (assuming that your 
image is called simpad-rootfs.jffs2 )

I've uploaded GPE image and it's working thanks!
Are you sure that minimo, firefox, thunderbird is included in this
image? I couldn't find it!
I wanted to load different images (e.x E-image) but I have an error
"flash not erased" during copying a new image.
Could you tell me how properly load another image?
