RE: Bootldr patches

Great Alex!
You are right, the second chip needs also the reset.

In WinCE we did some tricks to work around limits of the
old bootloader. I will have to look at these to see if it
is possible to run WinCE with bootldr. Don't hold your breath!

Walter

RE: Re: NE2000 compat list

Well, I said this card would work. I have one.
There is an issue with NFS though, it crashes.
Seems being a problem in the Linux driver of the card.
It needs a patch to set duplex modes according to google.

sound support status?

Hello

Just a quick question - how is doing sound support?
Anyone working on it? No hope for the next release?

Any suggestion for a keyboard that would be supported *and* available in Europe?
(I'm sick of trying to have the ibiz work-I'll buy a new one)

What is the problem with sound support? I can record and play
through /dev/dsp here - it's just a initial crackle when
first opening the device.

Generelly it doesn't look to good. It seems at the moment noone is
directly working on something SIMpad related except Alex doing the
bootloader and me doing the build system migration.

We hope to do the next OpenSIMpad release to be based on kernel 2.6,
however iirc there has yet to appear a ucb1x00 oss driver in that
kernel, so things aren't likely to improve until someone fixes that

Re: sound support status?

Hi Guylhem,

I know I have to work on the 2.6 kernel, but at the moment I have so
many things to do that I have no time to
hack the kernel.

For your keyboard. I would suggest the following one. I know it is
exspensive but it works greate:

http://www.man-machine.com/FX100.htm

They also have an open source driver for the zaurus. I have this
keyboard. One for my simpad and one for
my zaurus. Under X11 I have used an newton driver. Sometimes it works
and some time not.
But under Opie the driver works perfectly. Easy to install. :-)

You can buy it also in europe but you have to pay. You can order it
from this website.

One problem. I don't know from where you can get the siemens connector.

I have used my spare serial cable.

Maybee Walti knows where you can buy one.

Best regards

Juergen

Wow. Opening opie mixer crashes the simpad. Yet I haven't flashed december 2003
release based on 1.0.3 - that may be the reason.
I will try to reflash it this afternoon
[Regarding crackles, I can reproduce them restarting opie - I think it's related
to some hardware access made by opie at startup time instead of just opening the
device, but I'd have to try to boot without any kind of gui to test that]

simpad - hardware mods question

Hello

I can no longer find the simpad motherboard pictures on google...

I'd like to know why pcmcia-cs tools are detecting 2 ports - is there one port
that's inside the simpad which could be used to solder a pcmcia wifi card or a
128 Mb CF?
Regarding the replacement of the DECT module by a bluetooth module, any news?
I was put in touch with somebody at siemens but he refused to sell me a
bluetooth module.

If there's a possibility to solder something, that would be great...

Bien a vous - Best regards,
Guylhem

RE: simpad - hardware mods question

Hi Guylhem

The pictures are on opensimpad.org.

StrongArm has 2 PCMCIA ports but the SIMpad hardware has only drivers
for one port. You would need to change the hardware consirably to add
the second port.

IBIZ SUCCESS ! [was Re: sound support status?]

Well well I *no longer need this* :-)

After some extensive tests of the keyboard, the serial port, etc. I realised the
problem was in input-attach [which should be removed from the distribution BTW
since it makes the kernel crash].

My solution : get qpe-flexis. replace /dev/ttyS0 in one file by /dev/ttySA0.
recompile. install the ipk, restart opie, select "flexis" and test - IT WORKS!

I'm done with that thing. Ok it looks easy [stupid port name convention] but
I've been trying various software combinations, serial port setup (speed, etc)
for a very long time until I realised the ibiz, the serial cable and serial port
as well but the mistake was in the software. Now it works just fine [if you
don't press the green button which hangs my simpad]

Crossposted to opie lists where someone asked me the solution 2 weeks ago [while
still looking for it]

Best regards,
Guylhem

Too bad :-( I guess I will have to work until wifi "connect plus" pcmcia (128 +
wifi) works under linux.
