In testing further, I have discovered that if the database is on the SD card, and HS is in main memory, I do not have the problem. If the database is in main memory and HS is on the SD card, then I have the problem again. Very strange. Handy Shopper is a very small application, however, and I'm happy to keep it in my main memory.

Since I'm using WM5, I have hacked my registry and widened my scroll bars to 30px wide for all applications. Now I can scroll finger friendly! This pretty much completed my needs for HS. I'm a happy camper. Just trying to keep from pulling out the stylus as often. As I have a slide-out keyboard for typing, I'm pretty much there now.

[HS] Multi Store Data Base Setup

I first want to thank Chris for HS. I've using it for a while, although
never really tried creating fancy lists. Using my Touch Pro 2 keyboard, r,
the new HS for WM6.5, and my MobileI want to try something more elaborated.

My plan is to make a Database with several stores (Walmart, Sams Club,
Target). Items are stored in different aisles in every one of these stores.
Is there a way I could have different aisles per store in side of the same
database?

Thanks a lot for the help.

Turn on "Per store prices and aisles" in the Options dialog.

RE: [HS] Re: FW: Multi Store Data Base Setup

Chris,

Thank you for the prompt answer. I have already found the change and it
will help me a lot (how did I miss this one?). As a product suggestion, if
possible, add similar feature (per store) quantity as well.

Thanks a lot.

Alex

Can you explain why/how a per-store Quantity would be useful for a shopping list? I don't understand.

Re: [HS] Re: FW: Multi Store Data Base Setup

May be Alexandre's case is like I had when living in USA: there are several stores of the same chain (let's say several Walmart's) in the location. It could be nice to have a single instance of Walmart because the inventory and prices are equal in all of them... but the aisle distribution is not equal.

The only solution I see is to define one store per instance, like Walmart-Monterey, Walmart-Branham, in order to activate the per-store-prices-and-aisles feature. Use one of the stores as the "main store" to make the database manual entries (items and prices) and use the copy function from the stores screen, copying all but aisles from the main store to the others. Then add the aisles to each individual instance. Do all item maintenance in the main store and copy again after each update. Dot the same for each set of stores of the other chains.

Indeed this does not create new records in the database, simply adds more fields to existing records, so there is not really a waist of memory. Such is the wonderful design of Chris!

I hope this helps.

RE: [HS] Re: FW: Multi Store Data Base Setup

Chris,

Sometimes we want to buy one item at Sam's Club and the same (generic) item
at local supermarket. Qualities, quantities and prices are different but we
want to treat ourselves with a better quality cheese from the local market,
and then buy a larger quantity from Sam's. I know I could just define the
items as cheese A and cheese B, but if I go this way, my list will become
very long and I will end up lost with so many items. I must say that maybe
I am the only one with such idea and perhaps it's not worth going that way.
If you start over customizing HS, then the app itself will get confusing.

Let it go, I got carried away by what I wanted to do and did not put enough
thought on it.

Oscar,

What you thought was not what I had in mind, but you gave me an idea that will save me a good chunk of time. Thank you very much.
