[HS] Help needed

I can't seem to be able to make out whether Handyshopper is the db
manager for me. What I want to be able to do is to enter data into
records on the fly, on the PDA, rather than have to input the data
first, upload it and view it.

Can this be done, if so, can someone PM me on how to do it, thanks.

Yes that is how it is done. But why don't you just download it and try
it for yourself?

Yes. HandyShopper was designed to be used on the palm. The desktop stuff
came much later. One of HandyShopper's unique features is being able to
edit the data IN the table itself, rather than HAVING to go into item
details to do it, as with many other such applications. Any field on the
list view can be edited. The only limitation is that not all fields can be
on screen at once (screen's too small! :), and the Custom Text field is
ONLY available in the list view (i.e. you can't see it in the details
view). Some fields are free-form, and some are popup lists, etc.

Re: [HS] Digest Number 1140

Where are the databases stored? I was trying to put them on the card. I see
them when I'm in Handyshopper but don't know if they are taking up memory on
my Palm 515 or if they are on the 248K card.

You can use a bigger card, but have to format it first or you can lose data.

I just recently found the handyshopper. Will there be a desktop version like
there was before?

Also, can you beam the databases. I showed a friend the hanyshopper and
"beamed" it to him, but it went with no databases. And again they don't seem to
show up on the screens either, only when I am in handyshopper.

By default, lists are stored in RAM. If you have a card in the slot, you
can move lists to the card via the popup menus for each list in the
Databases screen in HandyShopper. HandyShopper will place the lists in the
Palm\Programs\HandyShopper folder on the card (which it will create if one
does not exist). Lists on the card will appear in your list of lists with a
small SD card icon next to them.

Most cards come preformatted and this is usually not a problem. But if it
worries you, then whenever you get a new card, format it with the Card Info
app on the palm.

If by "before" you mean Desktop Shopper, then yes. There's a program called
RatShopper (www.blackrat.biz) and for those of us with MS Excel, a nifty
Excel worksheet full of good macros called HS2-Edit. find that one at PalmGear.

[HS] hs2convert version 25009 archived?

The error I get in the command window is between the == lines:

===================
C:\Program Files\Palm\RR\Backup>"D:\temp\hs\hs2convert" -
c "D:\temp\hs\HS2Ed
itTemp\HS2Edit-temp.pdb" "D:\temp\hs\HS2EditTemp\HS2Edit-temp.csv"
HS2CONVERT -- HandyShopper2 database conversion tool.
No warranties are granted; use this tool at your own risk.

The selected database is an unrecognized type.

C:\Program Files\Palm\RR\Backup>Pause
Press any key to continue . . .
========================

I am using the same HS2convert version as the HS version I was
using. I am able to import the test file OK. I figured maybe I had
a corrupt .pdb file, but I tried another backup of what I had with
the same results. (Maybe it's bad, too, but it worked on my old
Palm.) All I'm trying to do is to retrieve the items from the
lists. This is a onetime need.

That error means the .pdb file is not a HS2 database - it will never
work with any version of HS2 because it's actually from some other
app, not from HS2.

There are two possibilities I can think of:
(1) The database you're looking for is really in some other file,
and you'll be fine once you find the right file.
(2) Your device's memory storage got corrupted somehow and the
device isn't able to back up the database without corrupting it.
This is pretty unlikely, though; in 7+ years of interacting with
thousands of people about Palm apps, I've only seen it happen twice
(once with a HS2 database, once with some other database), and in at
least one of those cases it definitely was not working fine on the
device either.

If you're sure that you have the right file, send a copy of it to me

[HS] new user question

Hi there...

I am a new user both to my Clie and to Handy Shopper, but it is going
well. I do have one question, which I tried to search the archives
for, but to no avail.

I am wondering what the "cards" checkbox is about on the database
selection page. Probably something to do with my memory stick slot??
Thanks so much for answering what is probably a no-brainer question.

[HS] Fatal alert on performing Global Find on my Tungsten T3

I installed Handyshopper a few days ago on my Tungsten T3.
This morning, I noticed that each time I perform a Global Find, I
get a Fatal Alert, requiring a soft reset. In each instance the
error message is identical:

     SystemCompatibility.c,Line:69,Invalid card #

Has anyone observed a similar problem -- either on account of having
installed Handyshopper or otherwise? Does anyone have any
suggestions as to how best to resolve the problem?

Many thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Jeff
