www.mylifeorganized.net new version of MLO released yesterday; two releases pending to
get the last of the key GTD functions in. Developed for the desktop first; not second.

The problem is, this program has no Palm-client. So working with places
doesn't make sense. Or you must use it on a laptop that you carry everywhere
you go.

I do not see the problem ...
The question was explicitly to have a GtD application for Windows ...
nobody asked anything about Palm ...

RE: Re: Any GTD Applications for Windows?

I believe the idea os to sync with Outlook. Then from there you can sync
with you Palm using most standard conduits.

Tips for new users--spinning our wheels

I've noticed that the more members we have on this list, the fewer
posts we have. Have we said everything that can be said about Palms
and GTD???

If you have any tips to share for the newcomers, please post them.

Re: Tips for new users--spinning our wheels

I'll stop lurking then ;-)

One thing which can be surprising for a newbie is the large abount of
different ways GTD could be implimented on the plam, which if you are
having to buy new software for, means you have to try and get it right
first time.

I know there are trial versions, but even then some software is quite
expensive (e.g. Life Balance),

I've tried the plain vanilla DA method, it it worked "ok", now have a
trial version of LB which is really powerful, but you keep asking
yourself, do you need to spend that much money if it can be doine
another way? especially as I already have Datebook5 which is another
brilliant program (I've been a datebookX user since version dbk3)

I am seriously considering using Datebook5 to impliment GTD, and
lmiting the contexts to 15 (perhaps as DA has done?)

Cheers for now

Philip - I am using only datebk5 for my GTD implementation and although
I only need about 12 contexts right now, it is easy to have more
contexts in Datebk5. There are two ways:

1. Use icons to note the context. This means you attach an icon to
every task. To simplify this process, use an icon manager to move all
of you context icons to the first 2-3 columns of your icon file or use
templates for each context for easy insertion.

2. Prefix a text code before each task like PC: or <at> PC or something
that is short and unique. This allows you to setup context filters by
text string on both the palm and in Outlook (not easily accomplished on
palm desktop, but at least searchable).

I have used a lot of software (thank God for trial periods) and they are
all really great in their own way. What I have found over time (about
the last 6 years) is that it has nothing to do with the tools, but it
has everything to do with the habits. Find a software program that you
like and can manage easily (some will take longer to master but can be
worth that effort) and establish habits that incorporate your use of
that program. Implement GTD to its fullest - collect, process,

Reevaluating tools

I haven't been active on the list - I just recently turned it back on
to receive messages.

I think it's important to take a look at the Palm tools you're using
from time to time as new versions of the software come out. I'd
switched from Shadow Plan to Bonsai but now I'm back using Shadow Plan
because it has continued to improve. Plus I got tired of waiting for
Natara to add an auto-import feature for ToDo items. Now that I'm
learning how to use Shadow I'm amazed at how much this program can do.
The Next Step Only filter, for example is great. Plus Shadow Plan
has more cross-platform support on the desktop.
