Interesting point!

If you
start hanging out on 'GtD_Paper' I bet you would fall into the same level of
frustration with your paper system, because you would suddenly be in an
environment where people were telling you of great new ways to tweak your
paper system.

Google groups

I've created a group on Google, located here:
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/GTD-Tips--Techniques

I don't cause any changes in this group or lose any of the people that
we have here. There does seem to be a need for a general group,
located where you can use RSS to read posts. And there certainly
should be a place for Moleskine hacks *grin*! If it turns out that
there really isn't a need for this, I'll shut it down. It is an option
for those who are frustrated with Yahoo and would like to have a more
general discussion of GTD techniques.

The more the merrier I say, but what about
http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/Getting_Things_Done

It seems to be *the* general GTD group.

If you mean memos, it does copy them over, both directions.

First post; implementing digital tickler?

Hi there, glad to have found this group!

I am a total newbie. New to GTD, new to Palm, even new to being organized. So far
I've implemented some aspects of GTD for managing home tasks: I've thrown a basic
set of lists into the Memo Pad of my brand new Palm and am feeling GREAT to have
that crap out of my head. Next steps are integrating my work life into the system and
figuring out how to "tickle" myself for future tasks that don't belong on the calendar.

A quick search through the group's archive showed me that, outside of 3rd party
software (that I'm afraid would be too complex to implement), the way to do a digital
tickler is to keep a set of monthly notes. I fear this would require too much review to
keep up with.

At work I've been setting due dates on my calendar and asking it to launch an alarm
1-2 weeks prior (whenever I need to get to the task). This works OK, but I don't think
the Palm calendar can do that. It also requires that the due date be entered on the
calendar -- ruining my "hard landscape". Any other implementations? I'm starting to
lean toward a physical paper file to cart to and from work. :\

Thanks for any tips, and I look forward to reading this group!

RE: First post; implementing digital tickler?

What palm are you using? If it's a T3 (or other one with the new calendar
app.) you can use categories. Keep it simple and use two categories...1 for
'tickler' items and one for everything else. Then you can view one or the
other categories 'or all categories'

If you get DateBk5 you can view multiple categories at one time... then you
can make categories for 'tickler', work, personal, birthdays, spouse and
setup views that show one, any combination or all categories.

It helps me to keep my tickler items on the calendar, it's easier to deal
with dates. Also, in DateBk5, you can give all appointments an 'advance'
reminder so things don't sneak up on you, especially if you slip in
reviewing things ;-)
