CanDo Software vs. Get Things Done software for Palm

I have gained a lot of info on time management practices and want to
maximize my Palm for time management.

I am considering the following 2 applications: CanDo and Get Things
Done V 1.0.

CanDo is at

Any feedback.

Thoughts on BlueMoon or DeskAlarm?

I am considering adding 2 applications to my Palm and Palm Desktop.
My main goal is to keep my Handspring Treo180 w/ Palm Desktop 4.01
and Handheld HS3.5 running without crashes.

Blue Moon V1.16. Application Description:

BlueMoon can be used to keep track of the last time you did
something, log each occurence of an event, and tell you when it's
due next. Not just a repeating "to-do" checklist, this program allows
seeing the event history at a glance, and even some statistics about
each event. It's easier to use than it is to describe!

Desk Alarm 3.03 DeskAlarm seamlessly integrates into Palm Desktop
displaying all your Palm datebook alarms and due To Do items on your
PC.

I have only a technical comment regarding this app:
it seems to be "coded" in PDA Toolbox. PDAT is a development
environment, where you can create a simple application on your own
withou any, or with little, programming skills. As with such, there
are certain limitations, over which this application cannot grow. If
you like it how it is, no problem, just buy it and use it. If you are
one of those who would never touch an application that will not get
updated/upgraded every now and then, then I can only recommend to
list the features you are hoping to be added to it and ask the
developer if that is possible or not in the future.

I thought the main goal should be to get more things done ;-)

Re: CanDo Software vs. Get Things Done software for Palm

I am trying CanDo right now, and like it. It is a bit pricey for
what it does, but seems fine. I may buy it.

Get Things Done appears rather primitive.

You don't say anythings about your wants and needs, though.
Have you tried the vanilla palm applications? If you can't make the
built-in todo list work ok for you, CanDo is probably not going to
revolutionize your ability to get things done.

Actually, the main thing (to me) is not to get MORE done. There is
ALWAYS more to do. For me, the challenge is getting the RIGHT things
done versus what everyone else wants me to get done. If I got no more
input from here til 2005 I still would not be able to get everything
done that I have on my plate right now. Even though I record and
process all of the thoughts and input, that doesn't mean I'm going to DO
all of it. It just means I am considering it. I want to get the right
things done so I can look back and feel good about what I DID do, and
not HOW MUCH I did. Maybe what I am getting at is that I want to do
more of the right things rather than do a ton of things just to look and
feel productive.

Just an observation...

Gretchen

Re: ToDo+

I must agree - Datebk5 and ToDo+ make a great combination. After
reading about CanDo on this site I installed and uninstalled it about
3 times - and now it is off my Palm for good. It really doesn't do
anything that you can't have the saved views in Datebook do. It does
not even have alarms for todos. Datebk5 can do most of what it does
and ToDo+ is a nice compliment to buzz around in your todos - viewing
them different ways - to get an good overview of what is going on. I
certainly don't think CanDo is worth $20 or even $15 for that
matter. I don't mean to sound harsh, but I agree with others that
ToDo+ and Datebk5 are a really good combination.

Re: Re: ToDo+

I like Datebk5, but I really don't see what ToDo+ gives, apart from
repeating todos. And lets face it, theres an easy workaround with plain
vanilla.....

Someone mentioned that the next version of ToDo+ will have alpha sort. I
would pay for that! Especially if I could apply it in selected categories -
i.e. Waiting For - where I want to sort all my todos together

Best

Filters. I typically use the "Radar" for what's coming up during the
week. It has a lot of built in filters and it is very easy to set a
todo for a different day. Also, you can add a note or picture to your
todo. The one thing that I wish it would do is link to appointments in
the datebook.

RE: CanDo Software vs. Get Things Done software for Palm

Gretchen,

you are right on THE THING. The hardest and most painfull decision
that I always have to do, is which of the projects to move to the
sometimes/maybe branch of my outliner. Sometimes my enthusiasm will
let me think I can do that all, but...

I have even learnt to press the delete button, now and then. Still my
tasklist is sometimes cluttered with "not right" things, emotions can
get in the way. Reviewing with clear unbiased mind is the key.

I also like the summary screen..its a big picture view of your
todos..and you are only a clic away from All or any category
view..Also, the pictures feature is handy if you need to draw a quick
map or diagram..

     All of the best,
           Ricardo
