Re: Images notices?

Hi there!

Hola-

I'm currently handling release engineering for IVI- management of the repo, image management/generation, general integration, etc.  As of about a week ago, we switched our image generation over to making it publically accessible (http://repo.meego.com/MeeGo/builds/${MAJOR_BUILDID}/${WEEKLY_BUILDID}/ivi/images/)- thus the preintegration for fridays and the weekly release for tuesdays is available to the general public to play with.

Wow, very cool.

I'm emailing to see if folks would like the general release notice/notes to be sent to this ml- it's generally a notice of the image's availability, blatant issues in the image, and notes of what people should pay attention to for fixes.  Possibly more in depth than is desirable for this ml, but I'm checking to see if there is interest so we can try and keep everyone in the loop as to where things are at.

This sounds great, I would very much like to be on this list. :-)

Thoughts?  Folks can realistically get the same data from watching bugzie, this is just the condensed form of it.

Would it be at all possible for me to be able to get a look at bugzie as well? I'm not familiar with it.

Unable to view MeeGo bugs in Bugzilla

Hi,

There is a bug I asked to be filed that is applicable to MeeGo IVI on the Beagleboard, specifically some touch screen drivers. The bug was filed today but was made immediately off limits apparently. Is there some default setting that bug reporters need to use to make sure that the bug is publicly viewable?

Regards,

Jeremiah

I can help look into this if you can give me a few more details (bug number, title, description, etc.) The only
bugs that should not be visible are ones with critical security exploit info.

Hi Dawn,

Thanks for the email. The bug number is 9524 and it should not be security critical. My understanding, from Igor's email, is that hardware companies are asking for bugs to be closed. This is quite a dangerous policy and could potentially damage MeeGo's reputation. Is it certain that the default actions on new bugs are only security related? Because the bug in question is not security related.

Thanks very much,

Jeremiah

We had a configuration issue that was marking some new bugs as private automatically. We've fixed the
bugzilla configuration error that was causing certain bugs to be automatically set to private, so this
shouldn't happen again with new bugs. However, we'll still need someone in QA to go back and clean things up
to reclassify some of the previous bugs.

Wow, didn't know this list existed...

Hi,

I am a long time Linux user (and even contribute every so often). I
actually run a carpc as a hobby (I'm Nasa on mp3car). So I have been
tracking the meego effort as I would love to see it develop into a
successful product.

Any way to get this list added to the Mailing List page on Meego.com?
I would never have guesses this list existed if I hadn't gotten to the
http://lists.meego.com/listinfo/ site by accident...

Cool, great to have someone like you around. I think I've seen your project, I'll go surf by again and check it out.

Yeah, I agree. But I think they want to limit the number of email lists on the Mailing list page, MeeGo has a lot
of lists and it can be overwhelming for people just getting involved. I don't know who is in charge of the
lists or the MeeGo mailing list page but I do know Rudi reads this list and can probably make the suggestion
or tell you who to suggest this to.

What comprises IVI?

So...

I've had this long standing question/thoughts that I put up on the forum
but haven't gotten much of a response too and was wondering what your (ie:
people on the list) thoughts were:

This is what I put on the forum...

I'm a little confused... I am somewhat unsure what the IVI platform is actually going to be.
I have seen (and run) the first 2 releases -- which have been described as *demo* of one sort
or another. I also noted the involvment of GENIVI, which had some interesting things to say
about it on thier FAQs:

    What are GENIVI's goals?
GENIVI's objective is to foster a vibrant open-source IVI community by:

-Delivering a reusable, open-source platform consisting of Linux-based core services,
middleware, and open application layer interfaces. -Engaging developers to deliver
    compliant applications.
-Sponsoring technical, marketing and compliance programs.

What characterizes an IVI open-source development platform?
The GENIVI open-source platform consists of Linux-based core services, middleware and
open application layer interfaces. These are the essential but non-differentiating core
elements of the overall IVI solution set. The automobile manufacturers and their suppliers
will use this platform as their common underlying framework and add to it their differentiated
products and services (the consumer facing applications and interfaces). GENIVI is identifying
these common automotive infotainment industry requirements to establish a higher baseline from
which to develop products for the common good of the ecosystem.

So if I follow this, GENIVI isn't expecting a UI from the Meego IVI... Is this correct?

BTW: Is there a project/program manager directing what requirements IVI is going to solve (ie: who's
driving the bus -- and does he know where we are heading)? I've been somewhat struggling with this
question for a while.

So, does anyone have any concrete idea on this? It somewhat frustrates me given I an actually a System
Engineer in my real life...
