I have solved this issue with openssh on the client side. Put following
into in .ssh/config:

Host <hostname of nokia>
  ServerAliveInterval 3

Ssh is pinging the nokia device every three seconds so that the wlan
interface on the nokia 770 won't be shut down.

SU-8W keyboard and hardkeys

My SU-8W came in Friday. It works very well, except for one problem,
the hardware keys. I connect to my keyboard, then disconnect, open up
FBReader, and the hardware keys don't work. However, if I switch to
XTerm  and back they work, until I change books or pages. I've tried
using "maemo-gtk-im-switch osso-input-method" to force the 770 back to
using the onscreen keyboard, but that doesn't work. The only thing that
I've found that consistently works is to reboot the 770, then the
hardware keys work fine until I again connect to the SU-8W.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Ahh... I stopped using dpkg except for dpkg -X package.deb
directory_to_put_package/
There should be a way to use it, but it's tricky since dpkg is used
for both /var/lib/install as well as / (root)
Just stick to app-installer-package for most usual stuff.

GtkInfoPrint and python

Hi,
I've started playing with python on my Nokia 770. I can successfully start a graphical application and customize it, but I cannot find the GtkInfoPrint widget in the hildon package. Where can I find it, if it has been ported?

Regional and Locale - Adding / Changing

Hi Friends,
 
I have a Nokia 770 and I live in Israel. I would like to change the regional settings to Israel (it shows up under /usr/share/zoneinfo - but not on the regions list) and I would also like to add the HE locale - ISO8859-1 - under the /usr/lib/locale hierarchy....
 
Can it be done?
 
I have already added the Hebrew fonts from the Culmus Project (http://culmus.sourceforge.net/) to the newly created /home/user/.fonts dir.
The fonts show up on the list, but when I try to use them in the AbiWord processor - I get squares - even if I change the language to Hebrew.
 
Can it be done?

Streaming MythTV

Just to let people know I have been successful at streaming video from MythTV to my 770.  I had to use MythStreamTV and do some magic to get things to encode correctly.  Not to worry I will write up some instructions as soon as I get a chance.  I have a few questions and comments. 

Ultimately my goal is to be able to view my MYTHTV shows from my 770, however I do this I will succeed!!

1) How do I run the player from the nokia video player from an xterm?

2) Can the video player take its file from stdin?

3) I have been successful at getting vlc to play video , but the screen is blank but there is sound. I managed to find an ipk from a zaurus repository.  Does anyone know how to get video to work correctly? 

Thanks.  O yes.  Great device and why the heck won't they sell these things in Canada?  I had to travel to Syracuse to get one.

Re: Streaming MythTV

Hello, nice, please to mention a few details. What format did you encode
to? I've tried all kind of formats and while I could download those to
the Nokia and then play them, I could never convince the video player to
receive a stream in the same format. I was forced to use mplayer instead
which works fairly well albeit at low resolution and frame rates (using
the SDL drivers). I got the binary from here:
http://mail.pdaxrom.org/contrib/Zaurus-5000D-5500/
where you also can find a vlc binary, which I haven't tested yet.

The GTK stuff should be in the GTK package. I even had to use Pango to get
stuff done.

But... Try Eagle. It's very easy to use, leads to nice and concise
code, and if you use it, you can just bother Gustavo if you want
something ;)

is there a method for intercepting the pressure of the "home key" and avoiding to iconify the current window?
My aim is to make a fullscreen application in a sort of kiosk mode but if the users can press that button they always can switch to desktop...
