Kernel compilation

Hi,

I recently got an old N770 tablet. It works correctly with OS2005 version of
Maemo. I installed OS2008-HE, which is also working quite correctly (I have an
issue with WiFi but I'll address it later).

My plans with this machine is to upgrade it to a Debian distro (I'm quite
comfortable with Debian). Before this can be achieved, I need to install a
recent kernel on the N770. The current Debian stable kernel is 2.6.32.

I installed a cross-compiling environment (scratchbox2) on my PC and compiled
the 2.6.32 kernel for the N770. I have a zImage that I can flash on the device.

I compiled my kernel with the following commands:
    sb2 make n770_defconfig
    sb2 make zImage
    sb2 make modules

I've flashed the kernel, modified the initfs to include 2.6.32 modules and tried
to boot, but it fails. I have the Nokia splash screen for around 20 seconds,
then the device halts.

I enabled R&D mode, expecting messages to be displayed on spash screen, but no
message is printed. I guess the kernel is not even loaded.

Is it possible to have a "vanilla" kernel working on such a device (I guess so) ?

Are there any specific steps I should have run to have my kernel working
(bootloader stuff, etc.) ?

Problem with CSSU update

Hi

I'm trying to install the latest CSSU updates but it insist on requiring
me to install from a PC. It's never done that before. Disk space should
not be an issue, plenty of free space available on the device.

What do I need to tweak to get around this ?

Selling n900

Hello.
Sorry if this is considered spam - I do not know where else
send it.
I have n900 but I do not use it anymore and it is just gathering dust.
I would like to sell it for 100EUR (+shipping), preferably
to some developer (preferably in EU).

I bought n900 in 2009; it was my main phone for 3 years.
It was restarting, so it had replaced motherboard in middle 2010.
I have never overclocked it, never installed power kernel nor CSSU.

kernel-power: QF9700 - "new" davicom modules for USB->Ethernet dongles lacking in kernel modules

Lately, new generation of Davicom's el-cheapo USB->Ethernet dongles
flooded the market. They can be bought for as cheap as ~2$ per (new)
piece, and unlike precedors, works quite reliably (no more MTU
problems, it seems - at least they don't spazm out after ping -s
1400).

There is one problem, though - new chip means, that old dc9601 module
(included in kernel-power) doesn't work anymore. Thankfully, Davicom,
despite having irritating history, released sources for linux modules.
It results in qf9700 module, required by current generation of
dongles. AFAIK, module is working reliably and included in development
distros - sadly, it's lacking in our kernel, even power- one.

Pali/Freemangordon, would it be possible to include mainstream
qf9700.ko module in next version of KP? Of course, version compiled
against current -devel kernel, allowing real-life tests and reporting
back would be appreciated, too. In such case, I'll gladly volunteer as
guinea pig.

[CSSU] GTK+ developers wanted

We (the cssu team) have more and more GTK+ based applications in the 
repository, and by far not enough manpower to work on all of them.

With the latest steps towards replacing closed components the amount of 
those applications increased again.

Things like the virtual keyboard could need some love in order to 
finally enter cssu.

We are happy about every bit of help (gtk or not) and can be found on 
irc (#maemo-ssu on chat.freenode.net).

github and n900

Hi,

I've installed git-core on my n900, but when I attempt to clone a
github repo through HTTPS, I receive "error:14090086:SSL
routines:SSL3_GET_SERVER_CERTIFICATE:certificate verify failed".

Does anyone have a solution to this or a way to use github on this
device through ssh?

double screen

Hello everybody, excuse me for repost from here:

but maybe someone here not reading forum.

I also post it to maemo-users <at>  list but i think the right place is
developers list.

I'm having a problem with my N800, it starts appearing two screens
folding one on another, second screen is about 15 pixels lower than
the first. While there are two visual screens, touchscreen is working
only on one, the first one.

Also, note that these two screens appears right after system starts
and remains till system shutdown (see horizontal line on starting and
ending screens). And there are two xterms in process list, as if it's
not just second view of system screen, but indeed two separate
processes which starts two subprocesses.

So, what is this and how do i remove second screen?

I have latest OS for this tablet and i didn't install anything that
could lead to such problem, it starts without a reason.

What's wrong with Extra-Asistant's autobuilder?
