why audio capture gets only zeros?

hi all,
I'm trying to figure out why audio capture do not works, and i noticed that
the ioctl works, but you the audio read() reads only 0's from the mic.

I think its better to make the driver work ok in kernel 2.4, and then port it
to 2.6.

bye,
rafael diniz

Jornada 7xx and Flashrom?

Greetings,

This is another part of the endless flashrom discussion. I truly believe that if we can get some new
flashboards out
there, we can easily turn this machine into a "must have" device for linux users.

Im still coding away to make the real-suspend thing work but all this would be avoided if we could
get flashboards.

The specs is up on handhelds site I believe and for someone with experience it shouldn't be that hard
to set into motion. The price for the end board isn't that important, I bet users would easily put up
the money it takes to have true linux on the jornada. If needed I could also round up interested users
on jlime and see how many we get. The point is that the manufacturer will not loose money over this.

Also, since ebay is flooding with old rom boards. Any chance those could be refitted with a flashrom? They
are selling them dead cheap so would be a bargain for any developer interested.

Im sure me and cmonex could fix a nice bootloader/lilo for the flashrom.

Anyhow, any updates on this matter at all?

Oh, and on a side note. Anyone actually got one of those flashboards? Asking because support might be removed
from the kernel unless atleast one user steps up.

Best wishes
Kristoffer

Hi,
I bricked my Jornada 628 yesterday while trying to install linux on it -
while writing the bootloader to the ROM, it just froze. I now have what
I believe to be a working JTAG interface soldered onto the device. I
installed Slackware 10.2 on an older PC to have a Linux distro with
kernel 2.4 to make jflash work. When running jflash (./jflash
saved_bootldr W), I get the following error:

JFLASH Version xxx
current control c2
error, failed to read device ID
ACT: 1111 1111111111111111 11111111111 1
EXP: **** 1001001001100001 00000001001 1

failed to read device ID for the SA-1110

I double-checked all wires for a short circuit, but they are all
isolated from each other. When I manually connect the parallel port pin
11 (which is soldered to TDI (pin 4) on the Jornada) to parallel port
pin 25 (GND), I get ACT: all zeroes, so the program seems to use the
correct parallel port (well, there is only one in this computer).

To build the JTAG cable, I followed this HOWTO:

http://disk.jabbim.cz/marex <at> jabber.cz/Jornada_debricking_HOWTO.TXT

I would be glad for any hints on what could be wrong.

Jan

Did anyone have any luck hacking a line in/mic in jack for the J7XX?
I have been told, by the maker of some PSK31 software that it's easily possible. I suppose a simple line level attenuator would do the trick. One low-rent way to do it would be simply sealing the physical junction between an earbud and the microphone grille on the corner. I suppose I will do that first.

the biggest problem would be finding space for an additional connector
inside the jornada. after that - just wire the jack, so that the
microphone is connected when there is no jack inside. the level attenuator
and a DC blocking capacitor can be external to the jornada in the cable
(inside some heat-shrink tubing).

i'm not sure if the jornada can handle PSK31, due to no floating point
capabilities, however RTTY and SSTV should be ok

Hi guys
haven't had much time to check the mailing list recently. Are there still some
people interested in new images?
If yes I might try to build new ones based on the angstrom distribution.

kind regards,

Sorry I don't know the exact relationship between the projects, but
is the angstrom distro better than familiar distribution? does one
support more of the hardware than the other

Hi Vencent,
all required sources are in the openembedded development build tree. Just the
config files need some adjustments. I don't know if 2.6.21 builds correctly,
maybe some older kernel needs to be used
