Hello Familiar Developer,
I have an ipaq 3660.I want to install Familiar v0.8.4 (OPIE or GPE image).
I have 64 MB Compact Flash. I followed the steps mentioned here
http://familiar.handhelds.org/releases/v0.8.4/install/bootldr-cf-mmc-sd.html
I successfully installed the boot loader. When I reset, it gives me the screen
as shown here
http://familiar.handhelds.org/releases/v0.8.4/install/install-cf.html . I have
the installation files on the CF. I have a dual slot sleeve. I have inserted it
in the first slot of the sleeve. When I choose the "Boot VFAT HDD/CF" option,
so nothing happens. I tried so many times. Changed the CF slot, reinstalled the
bootldr. but no success. I formatted (VFAT) the CF several times. But nothing
happens. I don't know What is the problem? What am I missing? Please I need
your help. Thanks a lot.

I have looked at all the FAQs I could find, but nowhere did I get useful
sugestions for getting sound to work under familiar0.8.4 on an iPAQ 3970. I can
talk to /dev/dsp and /dev/mixer, but all I here are clicks and hisses, even
when the system should be silent, e.g. during recording. The 0.8.4 release is
from 2006. Has anything been improved since then? Should I move to the 2.6
kernel ?

The install documentation should probably be amended to reflect this issue.

[Bug 1862] Can't install image "can't find control file"

After some fiddling, I've discovered that the CF card in it's sleeve works
fine, but only if it's formatted as a FAT16 card at 1GB (it's actually a 2GB
card). So, for the unwary that means a partition needs to be created on the CF
card (using fdisk) of type 6. Most large (>1GB) CF/SD devices these days are
formatted "whole device" with no partition table, using mkdosfs -I /dev/sdx,
rather than mkdosfs /dev/sdx1 where the partition has been previously created
with fdisk.

[Bug 1862] New: Can't install image "can't find control file"

http://bugzilla.handhelds.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1862

Summary: Can't install image "can't find control file"

I go through the rigmarole and download the appropriate tarfile, and I unzip
it's contents to a CF card. I have installed the bootloader image without a
hitch, but cannot install the actual OS image because I get the "can't find
control file" error message.

Since this is my first experience of trying to do this (although I'm an
old-hand at Linux generally), I'm a bit stumped as to what to do next.

It occurs to me that I'm using an add-on sleeve with a CF slot in it - I wonder
if I might fare better using the built-in SD card slot?

error in loading kernel-module-h4300-kbd-2.6

Hi,

This is my first post at familiar-dev. Hopefully it is not a dumb question.

I am trying to use Ramdisk Rescue to install Linux onto my iPAQ 4350.
But the keyboard module (kernel-module-h4300-kbd-2.6 ) doesn't load
up. It says something about file not found. I've checked custom.txt
and the file names match perfectly. Then, I looked into the mail
archives and I noticed that this has been an issue before as well,
i.e. the .ipk module not being found. Can you let me know what I have
missed and how I can install this keyboard module successfully?

Here is the error message :

> INSTALLING H4300 KEYBOARD SUPPORT.
> Clearing state_want and state_flag for pkg=kernel-module-h4300-kbd-2.6
> (arch_priority=0 flag=16 want=2)
> Nothing to be done
> No error occured, return value 4.
> Collected errors:
> Cannot find package kernel-module-h4300-kbd-2.6.
> Check the spelling or perhaps run 'ipkg update'
> [] ERROR []

here is the URL I used to download the keyboard module:

http://handhelds.org/~pfalcon/feeds/h4000-unofficial/

btw, i thought even if the keyboard didn't work, the navigator buttons
on iPAQ 4350 would. But they're not working either, and I get stuck at

Preferences config window with:

1. allow default setting for alarm for new events. I'd like it if all new
events had the alarm enabled with a time of 10 minutes.
2. option to makke sunday the start day of week.

A preference window to configure these would be great.

sidenoote: is this where a bug should be filed?
