Screen rotation works with the xrandr tool, something like "xrandr -o left".
I remember touchscreen was working on the Universal some time ago, but the
calibration tool failed.

One of them is called xtscal, I'm not sure if it's still used or for
your architecture, though...

altboot issue after fresh install

Hi folks,

first, apologies if you see this message twice. I originally sent it
to openzaurus-users but it bounced back complaining about mail server
issues. Since I use GPE, I thought someone on this list may be able to
help instead.

I'm sure someone will have seen this one before but I searched the
list and came up with nothing. I've been trying the resurrect my
collie.

I flashed my 5500 with OZ 3.5.4 / GPE 2.7 from one of the mirrors
(checked the md5s, they're OK) and it installed fine. I booted into
the system and all was good.

I then copied the gpe-image-3.5.4-collie.rootfs.tar.gz and
opie-image-3.5.4-collie.rootfs.tar.gz files onto my SD card (which has
worked before with OZ) and tried to go into advanced->install from
tar.gz in the altboot menus. The first time I tried it, it failed
daying that it's unable to mount the SD card. I tried again and it
then consistently said that insmod failed while loading. I guessing
here that it's the SD driver loading that's failing.

I was under the impression that 3.5.4 worked on the collie with SD
card, it was only the 3.5.4.X series that has the 2.6 kernel and hence
no SD support for the collie. Is that right?

Does anyone know how I can get my Z to run from SD card with altboot?

Many thanks.

RE: FW: Gpe on GTK-DirectFB

Hello!

Thanx for your response. We saw the gtkperf statistics with 2.10/2.6 and we
are considering 2.6 on DirectFB as it is fast. So, can any of you tell how
much effort it takes to port GPE applications like calendar and PIM
applications onto GTK 2.6 -Directfb.

What kind of issues can come up for this.

Thanx in advance.
Raju

Hello!

I think there is no need to run GPE on gtk+ 2.10 directfb :

1. gtk+2.10 is more slower than gtk+2.6 , you can use GtkPerf to test
the speed of 2.10/2.6.

2. According to my experience , gtk-x11 need about 4M sdram more than
gtk-directfb, most of the linux based smartphones/pdas have 64M sdram

ipkg dependency problems

I'm trying to test gpe-expenses on my iPAQ (h3900) prior to the first
release. I'm unable to build anything in the familiar-build using
bitbake and OE on amd64 and I am also unable to build the entire
gpe-image on i386 using OE itself. I don't have sufficient disc space
on i386 to build both the OE and familiar-build trees.

I am only able to build certain components of GPE via OE on i386. I've
created working .bb files for the necessary packages and the packages
build OK when called directly.

My problem is dependencies. The i386 OE build has led to .ipk files
that are well in advance of Familiar 0.84 library versions -
libglib-2.0 is 2.12 when the iPAQ has 2.6. That was OK, I built
libglib-2.0 and upgraded. libqof1_0.7.2 is now installed on my 0.84
Familiar iPAQ.

When I tried to install gpe-expenses, the Gtk and libgpewidget
dependencies were just too many to try upgrading (and risking breakage
elsewhere). The disparity can only come from the build environment -
the code itself does not require the v.latest Gtk related libraries.

Can I pin the OE build to certain dependencies?

gpe-expenses is currently unreleased because I want to make sure the
code actually works! However, current CVS builds correctly and I'm
using this bitbake file with the target of 'make dist' from CVS:

$ cat gpe-expenses_0.0.6.bb
LICENCE = "GPL"
PR = "r0"

Data collation and multisync

1. I'd be interested in packaging gpe-multisync for Debian IF a
complete build environment (with configure.ac and Makefile.am) was
available rather than patching an existing Makefile, plus the usual
paraphenalia of ChangeLog, COPYING etc. I don't mind doing this myself
- autoscan would do most of the work - if I have access. There'd need
to be some kind of upstream "project home" with CVS/svn/foo - it's not
too small for SourceForge (it's not going to be any smaller than
gpe-expenses which is already in SF).

1a : Do the three tarballs need to be separate? Can they be produced
from a single upstream home?

2. Just how does it sync with Palm PDA's? I have a utility that can do
this if gpe-multisync would output XML. (The XML provided by glib-2.0
would probably be fine, I'll handle the XSL from that, there may be no
need for libxml2.)

3. What's involved in extending it to other data sources (like
gpe-expenses)?

4. Can it (be extended to) support data collation? e.g. To prepare an
invoice, I need to cross-reference Calendar (where I worked / for whom
I worked) with Contacts (who to bill for the work) and Expenses (what I
spent). I'd prefer to retrieve that data as a single data set, rather
than syncing with three separate databases. Alternatively, should I
create a "collation" utility for installation on the iPAQ to interface
directly with the sqlite databases of contacts, calendar and my own
expenses? (If it's my own, it would use libqof1 to handle the queries
required to match data from one utility with data from another.) I
could conceivably work it from a simple sqlite dump from the iPAQ to

well.. maybe someone here knows, but an altboot issue would be definitley a
topic for an OpenZaurus mailinglist.

i don't know if someone here has experience with this already but i suspect that
if you want to get the same behaviour and functionality like in X this is a
quite some effort. But even quite low performance devices like the Nokia 770 use
GTK with X (2.6 in this case) so i really wonder if this effort and loss of
flexibility it worth that effort.
