barry, blackberry curve 8520 and accessing the SD card

Hi,

First of all, thank you very much for this tool!
I use barry with my lackberry curve 8520 on debian squeeze and it works
perfectly.

The only problem I have is that when I sync with msynctool, I can't plug
the blackberry and mount the SD card and access multimedia files
anymore, while I could before the sync.

If I reboot, the SD card can be mounted again.

Is this a known issue, and is there a workaraound?

Cheers and thanks again!

Nicolas

There is not opensuse 11.2 packages at opensuse build service.

Recently I installed opensuse 11.2, but I can't find rpms for opensuse 11.2 in the following repos

Re: Password Syntax

Anyone planning on putting out a deb file for ubuntu 9.10? If not, will
the 9.04 version work under 9.10?

Thanks
Mike

Re: Passwords

Can someone point me to the CVS and install instructions for the source?

Thanks

Hi Yuan,

That's correct. I've had to cut back on the amount of binary packages
I maintain, due to the time it consumes. Also, the opensuse build service
often didn't have the packages that a normal distro would include,
and so I'd have to build them myself, multiplying my work load needlessly.

Unfortunately, this means that I can't provide 64bit packages, and my
supported distros are currently limited to Debian, Fedora, and Ubuntu.

Fortunately, there are volunteers, who build from the repos themselves,
and some distros are including Barry as well. Martin Owens, for example,
provides Ubuntu packages based on recent git snapshots, and these are
available in 64bit.

The current list of volunteer packages are listed at the usual Barry
documentation page: http://netdirect.ca/barry
But there is no support for OpenSUSE yet.

OpenSUSE is on my todo list, but I have no time estimates for it yet.

If people want to volunteer to maintain packages like this, even if you
want to use the opensuse build service yourself, please do so, and then
send the URL to the list, and ask that I add your link to the Barry page.
All my work is still available on the build service, so you could start
from there, copy it, and continue.

I'd be grateful, as well as the users. :-)

For a while, it used to be possible to have the SD card mounted, and
access the databases at the same time.

Then, it was discovered tha some devices would spontaneously reboot if this
setup was active, especially if you were accessing the database and
copying files. I was unable to find anything particular to Barry or
Linux regarding this, so it was added as a Known Issue.

Perhaps new versions of the BlackBerry detect this and automatically disable
the SD card? I don't know... I haven't seen this behaviour before,
but considering the Known Issue, it might be for your own good. :-)

One more idea.... since you're running into this problem at the end of
a sync, I'm assuming that you may have scripted this... perhaps just
add a pause at the end of your script, and then run breset. This may
automate the SD card remounting process for you.

Just an idea...

Hi Mike,

All Barry documentation can be found at: http://netdirect.ca/barry

Look under the "How do I..." section for a list of common tasks.

If the documentation isn't enough, be sure to ask on the mailing list.

Yes, I'm planning to. I just haven't gotten to it yet.

It should be fairly easy to do yourself, if you install all the build
dependencies listed here:

	http://www.netdirect.ca/software/packages/barry/dependencies.php

Then grab the latest git:

	git clone git://repo.or.cz/barry.git barry

And build:

	./buildgen.sh
	fakeroot -- debian/rules binary

The .deb files will end up in the parent directory.

Or (if I had been thinking clearly) just use Martin Owens' snapshot
packages:

	https://launchpad.net/~doctormo/+archive/barry-snapshot

:-)
