Re: Android 4RC2 on Asus laptop A6vc not working

You could install it on your Asus laptop, then edit grub to allow dual boot.  I did that and can boot 4.0 or 4.2 now.

is there a way to load that livecd without installing it onto my asus laptop ?

Re: HELP!! Android-x86 4.2 can't boot into gui, just command line

Hi Maks,

I just tried that ISO, and I get the same error.  I AM able to boot other ISOs though.  I'm currently using a 4.0.4rc2 I built myself.

Hi,
yes, i'm running kvm with a cmdlien like this:

kvm -soundhw es1370 -net nic -net user  -cdrom  ~/Downloads/android-x86-4.2-20121225.iso

but I'm afraid adding -vga std did not help.
Are you able to boot that 4.2 ISO all the way into the full andoird GUI using kvm?

As I said in my previous email, the problem is that surfaceflinger is segfaulting, but this is after the FB driver switches the display to a higher res, so I'm not sure its to do with the gfx driver itself.

Maks.

jb-x86 source is ready

Hi,
I've pushed all jb-x86 branches to our main git server.
As usual, you can get it by

repo init -u http://git.android-x86.org/manifest -b jb-x86
repo sync

You will note there is only one target, android_x86.
This is the first step of the plan to create a universal image.
Though it's still far from complete.
I'll describe more details later.

SourceForge mirror is not synced yet.
Will try to do it when I have time.

Re: wacom serial touchscreen not working

Thanks Adi!
Your help did it!

I did not find any device like /dev/ttySx, but I searched for the wacom-input binary and found it in the thinkpad device config. I added it to my config, and that's  all. Now it works great! Wow, what a feeling!

I somewhere read Stefan Seidel added wacom-input to the android-x86 repo, but at least for 4.0 this does not seem to be true, it's only in the thinkpad device.
setting BOARD_USES_WACOMINPUT := true ind BoardConfig.mk did not compile wacom-input.

you may configure /system/etc.ts.env with the correct device like /dev/ttyS0 or /dev/input/wacom

my stupid test was: cat /dev/ttyS0  and test with your finger/pen: it should print some chars on screen :-)

check also wacom module with
lsmod|grep wacom

otherwise start it:
modprobe wacom

and for android you need to start wacom-input.

Missing apps in my build

hi,

I built the ics / 4.0 branch and i am missing a lot of apps.
in the asus_laptop or thinkpad isos there are
- market
- google maps
and a lot more apps, which don't show up in my build.

And I am also missing the wizard that comes up at first boot.

what's wrong?

Re: Ethernet patch for the 4.0.4 ics-x86 variants (applicable to Android-X86 4.0-RC2 as well)

Hi,

which is the most up to date ethernet patch?
I found one at the bottom of the download page of android-x86 and one in the oldest post in this thread.
they look similar but its too much to decide which one is "better" by viewing the contents.

Re: Android 4RC2 on Asus laptop A6vc not working

I dont know what unetbootin is, but I usually use DD to transfer the image.
this sounds like a problem which might be caused by some "intelligent" software while applying the image to usb drive.
the iso contains a partition table, so you simply may put it on any harddisk like media.

just do a
dd if=<iso-image> of=/dev/sdb bs=1M

and be sure to check if /dev/sdb is your usb drive. else you could wipe your hardrive.

best to check which one is your usb drive is to mount it, then issue "mount" which lists all mounted drives.
one of these should be your usb drive.
before using dd, you should unmount it first.

Have you seen

http://git.android-x86.org/?p=device/ibm/thinkpad.git;a=tree;f=wacom;hb=ics-x86

This is an optional package.
You need to add it to your PRODUCT_PACKAGES
to make it be built.

Probably the easiest way is just to modify the thinkpad
target for your device.
