Re: Activity, Andrew?

I, too was hoping too see something going on here. As I stated a while
back, this project is just what I was looking for.
Is the project dead? Should there be someone taking over, or splitting
off and taking the project in their own direction? It seems to me that
enough work has been done that this would make a good base for
another, similar project, but I had hoped that this project would
progress a bit on its own.
Like Jonas, I don't mean to offend anyone, I am just curious what's going on.
I guess I could start fixing things in the code as a contribution, and
that might help it along...

Hmm, I might just have to do that. Of course, I might not do things
the way you guys want them, so I'm a bit hesitant. Not that you'd have
to accept my changes...but now I'm babbling here.
Anyhow, great project so far, hope to see it keep on going.

Yeesh, it's only been a month or two. There have been longer pauses
than that before now. Some things just take time, and we're all fairly
busy.

Cribbing from EPU:

ATTENTION! PLEASE OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING RULES AT ALL TIMES:
1. DO NOT ASK WHEN PENDING PROJECTS WILL BE COMPLETED. WE DO NOT KNOW.
2. DO NOT ASK WHY WE DO NOT KNOW. THIS PHENOMENON CANNOT BE EXPLAINED.

Read the original Mark's report and RTFM/STFW in general.

The problem is the amount of network traffic generated by transferring
low-level graphics from client to server. The associated delays are also
problematic. It is much more elegant to let the server do the drawing. This
would also solve the problem of themes for every GUI toolkit and for every
windowmanager, because all could move to using just Y themes. Of course it
is possible to make Y 100% backwards-compatible without sacrificing any of
the elegance.

I'm just a bystander, so look carefully if anyone here will correct me. If
not, only then believe me.

Y-0.2.1 not working

Greeting,
I have tried compiling and installing Y-0.2.1. That went fine, but when
I tried to run startY I got the message "server exited before starting
up" or something like that. The only thing I have been able to get
(partially) working (I tried also 0.2, 0.2.1) is Y--devel--patch26. That
one works fine, but it does not display fonts. I have a Gentoo Linux
system. I noticed the change from libsigc++-1.0 to 1.2 (I have both
versions), is it somehow related to Y not working at the moment?
	Thanks for any suggestions.

Best regards,
	Daniel Zavodsky

You should probably read the first chapter of Mark Thomas' original
project report. There is a link to it in the FAQ:
http://www.y-windows.org/faq.html
Look under "Where can I find out more information?"
